ScrippsAVID: Free and Available Now

ScrippsAVID, an Arts-based, Virtual, Intergenerational, Dementia-friendly video-chat platform, connects students with older adults, including those living with dementia and their care partners, to share art, music, poetry, and stories. Participants come together to have fun, be creative, and build intergenerational friendships. Development funding for ScrippsAVID was provided by National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the NextFifty Initiative. Sign up now to be part of the next cohort this fall!

New Organizational Membership Options

Our website features new organizational membership opportunities. The benefits of membership include:

  1. Distinguishing your organization from others with recognition as an OMA certified organization on our website and yours.
  2. Maintain OMA standards by going through annual reviews.

There are two levels of membership: Basic and Premium. Organizational memberships are only available to organizations with certified facilitators.

Become a Certified OMA Facilitator in Ohio, Virginia, or Online

There are several opportunities to register for training to become a certified OMA facilitator in 2023. Participants will earn 20 hours of CEUs from NCCAP and NCCDP upon completion. Upcoming trainings:

  • Hybrid training in Virginia begins September 19, 2023
  • Fully Online training begins September 25, 2023
  • Hybrid training in Ohio begins September 25, 2023

Select skilled nursing facilities in Virginia can apply for funding to implement OMA as a Quality Improvement Project. Selected nursing homes will receive scholarships for two staff members to attend OMA training, plus $2,000 to purchase art supplies. Certification Course with AGE-u-cate

OMA is excited to announce a new course in collaboration with AGE-u-cate Training Institute. Anyone can participate to learn the principles behind OMA in a 2-hour certificate course. The course makes the case for conducting arts-based intergenerational programming that benefits both older adults living with dementia and younger adult volunteers. This course does not certify individuals to become OMA facilitators.

Midterm Updates from Indonesia

OMA Founder and Director, Dr. Elizabeth "Like" Lokon, is over halfway through her Fulbright journey in Jakarta, Indonesia. Most recently, the team has completed a five-week OMA programming at an adult day center for people living with dementia at Rukun Cipete. They served 11 older adults living with dementia paired with Atma Jaya psychology interns and medical students who recently graduated with their MD degrees.

Free Visual Artwork Resource

Carolyn Taylor for CoGenerate x Fine Acts

Fine Acts and CoGenerate produced a collection of powerful visual artworks on the topic of Generations Together. They commissioned 20 artists from around the world to create illustrations and nine artists to develop symbols that depict generations working together to solve our greatest challenges. The illustrations and symbols are free to use.
