2024 legislative update
Chet Seward presented positive outcomes from the consequential 2024 legislative session, including priority work on preserving the stable liability climate, prior authorization reform, scope of practice, and other public health and medical practice issues. Advocacy is one of the most important roles of your medical society, and your engagement -- by staying informed and answering calls to action -- made a difference. The board reviewed lessons learned and discussed how to apply them to improve future advocacy initiatives.
CMS updates membership dues structure
Following a membership summit in March and joint meetings of the CMS Executive and Finance committees, the Board of Directors approved the first dues increase in 20 years. Starting in 2025, most dues-paying members will see a modest $50 increase. The Board also approved small, inflationary adjustments in the future to keep CMS viable. Changes are only being made after a thoughtful and vigorous process, and they are essential to ensure CMS can sustain high-quality services to physicians and maintain our commitment to continued stewardship of your dues dollars toward member priorities.
Colorado physicians represented nationally
Your elected Delegation from Colorado represented you at the American Medical Association Annual Meeting earlier this week. Delegation Chair Alethia “Lee” Morgan, MD, reported on key topics addressed at the meeting including Medicare payment reform, fixing prior authorization, and fighting scope of practice creep. She highlighted the excellent leadership of our delegates in various AMA leadership positions, including Carolynn Francavilla, MD, of Lakewood, who became Chair of the AMA Private Practice Physicians Section.
Your voice was heard at the CMS Board meeting; thanks to all who voted through Central Line
The Board took action on three Central Line policy proposals. All members will receive a separate communication about the proposals next week and will be asked if the board "got it right." Thanks in advance for your votes.
