Summer 2024

Marine Education Centre

The Reed Point Marina Education Centre has evolved into a university marine station. For years the Marine Education Centre has been a place to study marine life in its habitat or inside its floating lab. Being in the Marina, it is a great place for the boaters to see research happening and to increase their own "Ocean Literacy". The lab has become a "window into the harbour". It has been able to host large numbers of students of all ages (generally high school and university) during the years, including classes, field trips, tours, and grad students. It has a history of successful researchers on a regular basis. The Centre has produced some notable grad student independent research. It has had experts on taxonomy, ecology and local history. It is currently being remodeled as a place to teach small intensive undergraduate and graduate classes in coordination with Simon Fraser University. The renovations will include have a running seawater room. This could become a test bed for ocean instrumentation and a support base for the research vessels. It is becoming a place to integrate the Faculty of Environment, Faculty of Biology, underwater archeology, natural sciences and education.

Annual Parking Passes

Moorage customers are reminded to place their parking passes on the bottom of the windshield on the passenger side. Instructions are listed on the back of the pass. It is imperative that you follow this requirement. The patrollers usually look to try and find them if they have been put elsewhere, but its not always possible. Impark recently towed a car that had put the pass in the top portion of the windshield where it was partially obscured by the tint line.

Axopar to Fiji

Recently a local Axopar owner retained Revolution Yacht Experience to put their vessel in a container and ship it to Fiji for use there. Revolution contracted with Inlet Marine at Reed Point to put the boat in a container which was delivered to Reed Point on a standard trailer. Inlet lifted the entire trailer to make space for the container to be lifted off, all done with the travelift. Then a block and tackle was attached inside the front of the container so the boat could be pulled in on slides that had been in stalled. A forklift was used as the pull power. The top of the boat was removed and placed behind the boat.
