Summer (July & August) 2025 Edition
As we continue into the summer months, I hope that you have been able to enjoy all that Croton has to offer – whether it be the summer concert series at Senasqua Park, a refreshing swim at Silver Lake or a nature walk on the Jan Wines Memorial Trail System. Please be sure to read down through the newsletter to see the latest schedule for the family entertainment series and summer concert series hosted by the Recreation Department.
While the Village has not been impacted directly by flooding recently, nearby areas have suffered significant flash flooding from summer thunderstorms. Our Dept. of Public Works continues to maintain and improve our stormwater system; projects completed in the last few years include the installation of storm drainage on Van Wyck Street, and the reconstruction of the stormwater retention pond on Georgia Lane. Over the next few months, crews will be inspecting and making repairs to the storm drainage along Scenic Drive West. For more information on the Village’s stormwater management practices, please visit the Village website.
Updates on various projects and initiatives ongoing in the Village:
-
NYSDOT Roadwork: The milling, paving and striping of Route 9A (Albany Post Road and Riverside Avenue) continues for the next few weeks. Crews will return in the fall after Con Edison completes their gas main work to mill and pave the section of roadway between Wolf Road and Warren Road.
-
Con Edison: Con Edison has begun a gas main re-lining project on Cleveland Drive between Whelan Avenue and Benedict Blvd. Projects are also scheduled for Elm Street, and Batten Road, as well as Cleveland Drive between Kuney Street and Gerstein Street, in the next six weeks. Thank you for your patience while Con Edison undertakes this vital infrastructure work.
-
1 Croton Point: The Planning Board has issued site plan approval to the multifamily building at 1 Croton Point Avenue, and the Village Board has approved the purchase and sale agreement for the property to WBP Development. Construction is tentatively planned to begin in early 2026.
-
25 South Riverside: Construction work continues on the multifamily building at 25 South Riverside. The Engineering Department has recently conducted inspections for the plumbing and the sprinkler system. Work is expected to be completed in the fall.
-
1380 Albany Post Road: The Planning Board issued a renewal of the special permit for a multifamily building on July 1 for another two years as the developer finalizes their building permit plans.
-
325 South Riverside: There has been no further documentation submitted from the developer related to the traffic concerns expressed last year at this site. The Planning Board will assume review of this special permit application when that documentation is received.
Please note that the Village Board meeting schedule for July and August has been adjusted. A work session will take place on July 23 at 7 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Village Board is scheduled for August 20 at 7 p.m.
Please remember to check the Projects and Initiatives page of the Village website for updates on various other work being done. These pages are updated regularly as more information becomes available. As always, residents are welcome to contact me at bhealy@crotononhudson-ny.gov or 914-271-4848 with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Bryan T. Healy

County Legislator Emiljana Ulaj has provided the following update on the construction of the new Quaker Bridge:
On Monday, July 7th, the Budget & Appropriations Committee voted on a major step forward for the replacement and construction of the new Quaker Bridge.
The Committee approved a $17.6 million bond for the construction of the bridge, putting the bond on the agenda for the Board’s July 21st meeting.
Timeline:
-
Request for bids on the project was posted on June 27, 2025, and the County will accept bids through July 30th.
- Board of Legislators will vote on the bond on Monday, July 21st.
- Bid is expected to be awarded by the end of August.
- Construction work is expected to begin by the end of September with a 10-month completion timeline.
- Bridge opening date is scheduled to be ON TIME for June 2026.
At the Committee table on Monday, we discussed and confirmed bridge specifications. The bridge will have two lanes. It will be able to carry all emergency vehicles, and it will not have the height restrictions the current bridge has. There will also be a 5-foot shoulder next to one of the lanes to accommodate foot or bike traffic over the bridge.
Quaker Bridge was shut down in November 2024 due to red flag notices by the NYS Department of Transportation. The bridge was originally built in 1894 and is a County bridge.
Thank you to the many impacted community members for their patience. Glad to reaffirm that we are ON TIME for the new bridge opening. To catch up on previous updates on the Quaker Bridge replacement project, click here.

Village Board Adopts New Tree Law
On July 9, 2025, the Village Board of Trustees adopted Local Law 13 of 2025 to replace the existing Tree Law for the Village of Croton-on-Hudson. The law was drafted in consultation with the Village's Conservation Advisory Council with the intent to encourage the planting and preservation of trees within the Village.
In addition to previous requirements, tree removal permits are now required for the removal of trees located in a wetland, watercourse or buffer area, on steep slopes, and in a regulated buffer zone. Permits are also required if undertaking clear cutting or removing more than three trees within a 12-month period.
The law also now prohibits the "topping" of any tree, or excessively pruning any tree, as well as requiring property owners to plant replacement trees in certain instances. Additionally, the law establishes a Tree Preservation Fund, in which any funds deposited are to be used for planting and maintaining trees of public land.
Please contact the Engineering Department at 914-271-4783 or engineering@crotononhudson-ny.gov if you have questions regarding tree removal on your property.
