SUMMER 2025 NEWSLETTER

Dear Presidio Heights Neighbor,

PHAN is kicking off this summer with our first ever Soirée! We hope you’ll join us at Anthem next Thursday, June 12, from 6pm – 8pm to meet new neighbors and catch up with folks you know. The event is free to attend. Wine and nibbles will be served, compliments of Gallo, and dues-paying member will receive a 20% gift card off of a single item at Anthem!

PHAN hears from neighbors about all sorts of topics. A subject that comes up regularly is home improvement projects. You may have noticed that they can be very disruptive. If you’re planning to do work on your home that you anticipate will impact your neighbors, it’s always considerate to let them know about it in advance.

Please direct contractors, tradespeople, or other providers working on your project to minimize any excessive noise, to not double park and block other people’s access to their homes, and to only reserve street parking spots for the amount of time that's absolutely needed. We count on each other to be good neighbors by being courteous and helpful to one another.

Another subject is residential exterior lighting. For everyone’s safety, our neighborhood benefits by being lit at night by a combination of the city’s street lamps and residential exterior lighting. Even so, we should all be keenly aware of how our lighting systems affect one another and not take a “timer set-and-forget approach.” This perspective can also be applied to such items as wind chimes, in-garden wood burning fireplaces, 24/7 water fountains and outdoor sound systems. Our peaceful and quiet enjoyment doesn’t just happen. We create it.

Enjoy a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Bruce McKleroy

PHAN President

Highlights from PHAN's Evening with

Supervisor Stephen Sherrill

PHAN was delighted to host Supervisor Sherrill at the Presidio Branch Library on March 20, not only because he represents us and the rest of District 2 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, but also because he is a resident of Presidio Heights and a member of PHAN.

PHAN neighbors asked questions that ranged from topics about eliminating public drug use and retail crime to disaster preparedness and upzoning. On the heels of the fires in Los Angeles, Supervisor Sherrill has been in touch with the SF Fire Department and has been told that we have appropriate pressure in our fire hydrants in Presidio Heights. He also shared that the Eucalyptus trees in the Presidio are highly combustible but given the relatively moist conditions in the Presidio, the SF Fire Department doesn't think the risk of wildfire coming from the Presidio is especially high relative to the wildfire risk that other communities in Northern California might face.

Our community sadly lost longtime PHAN Board Member, Lindsay MacDermid, on March 3. Lindsay, and his late wife Jean, served on the PHAN Board for close to 20 years. Gracious hosts of many PHAN meetings in their backyard carriage house, they were both committed to the betterment of our neighborhood. Lindsay stepped forward to become PHAN’s Treasurer at a time when the association was in need of someone with his skills and knowledge. Under his guidance, PHAN’s financial position increased while the dues remained steady. PHAN extends its condolences to Lindsay and Jean’s family. They are both greatly missed.
