Children's Summer Reading Challenge
We are looking forward to a summer of prehistoric fun with our 2026 “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading program! There are programs for all ages, so no one will be left out of the fun. Here is how to sign up:
Babies, Tots, and Pre-K:
Children up to 4 years old can sign up with their grownups and will get activity sheets to complete together. Every four activity bubbles little ones complete, they can get a prize, up to 6 prizes and raffle tickets.
Kindergarten to 5th Grade:
Register for READquared at Somerslibrary.org/summer-reading-2026/ to begin reading. Every two hours you complete, you get a prize and raffle ticket. When you’re ready for a prize, head to the children’s room to pick it up!
Raffle Tickets & Prizes:
Head to the Children‘s Room to collect your prizes. With every prize you get, you get a raffle ticket to enter into the raffle for one of our prize baskets. You can also earn extra raffle tickets! You can enter an activity sheet, and for each row you complete on your card, you earn another raffle ticket. Raffle prizes will be drawn within the first week of school!
Sign ups start June 25th, and the program runs all the way until school starts on September 2nd.

Summer for the Library Teens
The best thing about the summer at the library is summer reading and our fun programs. Just like last year, the teens (entering Gr. 6-12 in the fall), can sign up for summer reading by going to the summer reading tab on our website or popping by the library. Every teen gets to pick a free book to keep, a tote bag with goodies and a chance to win our raffle. Our raffle prize this year is Apple Airpods 4. We will also be giving a prize to our top reader of the summer which will be a retro bluetooth speaker. All you have to do is sign up, read, play games or attend programs to earn points.
Every Wednesday this summer is devoted to anime and manga! We will alternate between our Afternoon Anime which starts on July 8 and Manga with a Twist of Anime starting July 18. Come hang out and watch anime. On Tuesdays we will be crafting and drinking fun summer drinks. Just check out our event calendar online or sign up for our emails.
“It’s Summertime: Time for Adult Summer Book Bingo!”
Summer officially begins June 21, and the 2026 Somers Library Adult Summer Reading Challenge Book Bingo launches this date, too.
Since at least 2015, the Somers Library has hosted this popular annual reading challenge. Each year the categories have evolved into a reading challenge almost like no others. This year the Bingo Card includes many new reading categories, viewing categories and non-book categories to entice participants to try them.
The details: The 2026 Adult Book Bingo began Monday, June 22 and continues until August 31, 2026. Registration link above, with the Bingo Card available for pick-up (or via email) from the Reference Desk.
Our goal is to encourage every one of you to join us, read more, do more, and celebrate more with us. We look to increase the number of participants even more over last year’s 36 people!
Every participant who submits the official Bingo Card will be eligible to win a raffle prize which includes:
- Electric Composter
- Smart Bird Feeder
- Margarita & Slushie Machine
- And other surprise items, too!
