2026 Memphis MPO Safety Action Plan (SAP)

The 2026 Memphis MPO Safety Action Plan (SAP) is the regional roadway safety plan for the Memphis MPO planning area. The updated 2026 SAP provides a data-driven framework for reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries across the region. Guided by the Safe System Approach and Toward Zero Deaths initiative, the plan identifies crash trends, high-risk corridors, and targeted safety strategies for safer roads, safer speeds, safer people, and post-crash care.

The draft SAP was made available for a 30-day public review.

New MPO Staff Member

Mitali Taraikar joined the Memphis Urban Area MPO as a Transportation Planner in June 2026. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Mumbai and earned a Master of Community Planning from the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) in 2025. Before moving to the United States, Mitali worked as an architect in India, contributing to residential, mixed-use, and large-scale development projects. Her experience included architectural design, site planning, consultant coordination, and construction documentation, which fostered a strong interest in the relationship among urban form, infrastructure, and community development.

During graduate school, Mitali worked as a Research Assistant in the University of Cincinnati's School of Planning, working on land use, zoning, transportation, and community development projects through GIS analysis, urban design visualization, and site planning. Following graduation, she continued working with the School of Planning as a Research Assistant, contributing to planning studies, spatial analysis, and development-related projects. She also completed a planning and design co-op with KZF Design in Cincinnati, where she contributed to zoning, multimodal transportation, and community planning projects, including the Springdale Bike and Pedestrian Connectivity Plan and the Hamilton County Ohio River Wayfinding and Signage Plan.

Her graduate capstone, Reimagining Childcare, received the 2025 American Planning Association Ohio Chapter Planning Student Showcase Award for its innovative approach to transforming underutilized urban spaces into accessible childcare facilities through community-centered planning and multimodal transportation strategies.
