Catholic Memorial School
Dear Parents and Guardians,

On behalf of the Catholic Memorial faculty and staff, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a restful and relaxing summer. This has certainly been a turbulent and difficult past two months and I am sure that many of you and our young men are incredibly mentally and emotionally drained. Your efforts and commitment to CM’s remote learning program have been a testament to the indelible spirit of this community and I hope that you take some time this summer to reflect on the remarkable accomplishments of the 2019-2020 school year.

This time last year, I wrote to our community expressing my excitement to enter my first year as Principal, and in particular, my excitement for the challenges and opportunities ahead. I certainly did not anticipate the level of challenges this school year would bring, but my pride and enthusiasm for the CM community has increased exponentially.

This school year was not defined by the adversity but by the grace and empathy displayed throughout our community. We are a stronger school and a stronger community because of that adversity, and I look forward to continuing to build on this foundation in the years ahead.

As Dr. Folan wrote last week in his end of year letter, there are still many questions to be answered in regards to this coming fall. As a faculty and staff, we have been hard at work for the past two months preparing for a variety of scenarios that could play out. Our commitment to this community is to continue that work so that we will remain the vibrant, engaging educational experience for your sons that has made us one of the premier schools in the state of Massachusetts.

Below you will find information that will prepare you and us for the upcoming school year. Due to construction on campus, the physical building will be closed until the end of July. However, our staff and administration will continue to be here to serve you and answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

In closing, I want to thank this community again for the opportunity to serve as your Principal. It has been an incredible blessing and I look forward to the path ahead and our work together. Please enjoy your summer, be safe and stay healthy, and remember to live Jesus in your hearts… forever!

All the best,

Mr. Andrew OBrien
Principal/Assistant Head of School

All School Read
Once again, all members of the Catholic Memorial community will engage in an All School Read this summer. After considerable conversation, the committee selected Steve Pemberton’s memoir, A Chance in the World as our All School Read.

This powerful memoir illustrates Steve’s journey against seemingly insurmountable odds to become a trail-blazing and enlightened diversity leader, visionary youth advocate, corporate executive, and acclaimed speaker.

Books were distributed to returning students at the locker pick up. For new students, CM staff will be dropping a copy off at your home during the next week. If you have not received a copy by June 26th, please contact CM's Main Office staff.

In addition to our All School Read, students will have a range of additional summer assignments depending on their grade level and course enrollment (See below for additional information).

Important Notes
OnCampus
Course enrollments will be published in OnCampus by the end of June.
OnCampus, CM's student and parent portal, is used to track academic progress, assignments, and to communicate other academic information. New students and parents will receive login information in a separate email.
Technology
Beginning in the fall of 2020, CM will expand its technology requirements for all students. This has been an initiative that has been in the works for over a year, however, the importance of every student possessing technology that supports and enhances his learning has never been clearer than this past spring in our remote learning environment. In the coming weeks, we will be sending out more information and guidelines that will inform the type of technology your son will need.

If you are interested in finding transportation options for your son, please fill out this form .
Textbooks
Textbooks are purchased online via eCampus. CM's store will open on July 15th. You can access a list of your son's courses through your OnCampus account. Textbooks purchases will be shipped directly to your home (Additional information about eCampus will be sent in a separate email).
