Welcome to the 2021 GVBL Summer League
Thanks for everyone's patience as we organized this summer's league. This year we are moving back outdoors for our basketball...something we haven't done to this scale since the mid 2000's! We have over 450 kids participating this summer and we look forward to a couple of months of fantastic basketball.
Rosters and Schedules: Both have been finalized. They have been posted on the news & updates page of the basketball section of the gvco.org website. There may be a couple of late additions in a select few division, however rosters have been set.
Teams & Coaches: Each team's roster has been assigned. Teams will get together to meet for the first time at their first game and be given a team jersey. If you cannot make the first game we will hold on to your jersey for you. A gracious volunteer has been assigned as coach(es) for each team. We encourage all parents, of all teams, to see if the coach(es) need help during the season. Everyone has a busy summer...please help out if you can. The Girls 7th/8th grade division will be coached by committee.
Games: Our summer league will be played Monday through Thursday nights. Generally two games per evening at 6:00 & 7:00pm. The younger age divisions will play their games on the outdoor courts at KD Markley elementary school. The older divisions will play their games on the outdoor courts behind the Great Valley High School. Please note traffic patterns in and out of the GVHS will change this summer while work is being performed on the stadium. Games will take roughly one hour and the schedule typically runs on time. There will be no practices scheduled for summer league, just the game schedule. Games begin June 14th and conclude August 12th. Playoffs will start the beginning of August. There will be no playoffs for the 1st/2nd grade divisions.
Our summer league is meant to generally be more informal than our winter league. Vacations and other activities will impact game day availability and there will be a lot of games with 5-6 players. We’ll just roll with it.
Rules: There are a set of different rules for each age division. GVBL has a number of unique rules with regard to substitutions, playing defense, game timing and "free zones" to name a few. The purpose of these unique rules is to generally create "balance" within each game. GVBL's goal is to learn how to play competitive basketball while having fun. At the same time giving every player the opportunity to succeed and enjoy playing. The rules are located on our website. Please take the time to review and familiarize yourself whether you are a fan or a coach.
Refs and Refereeing: As we have done in past years, we give our summer volunteer coaches the summer off and do not ask them to referee. We will once again have student referees for our summer league games. We have 30+ student referees signed up this year (WOW!!). All played in our GVBL league in previous years. For the first several weeks we will be pairing a number of these student referees up with adult referees so they may become more comfortable with refereeing. Please show the student referees the proper level of respect.
Inclimate Weather: Inevitably inclimate weather will effect game days. We will post any changes due to the weather on the website and the GVBL app as soon as the determination has come to a decision. We will cancel games whenever we feel it is unsafe to be playing outdoors on the court.
Court Monitiors: There will be GVCO summer interns assigned at each location each game day. Cullen McDaniel will generally be at the KDM location and Cotter Duffy will generally be at the GVHS location. David Nemeth, GVCO College intern will have oversight responsibility for the GVBL Summer League this season. If you have questions, issues or concerns please reach out to David at gvcointern@gmail.com
Covid: GVCO & GVBL will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the State of Pennsylvania and Chester County. The coronavirus has not been eradicated so continued awareness is warranted. Generally please continue to be social distanced, masks should be worn by those individuals who are not fully vaccinated and please notify GVCO's Covid point person, Keith Walsh at execdirector@gvco.org if you or your child have contracted the coronavirus. We will not require any of the participants to wear masks while on the court or bench area. Masks will be optional for any fully vaccinated coaches, referees, scorekeepers or fans.
Thank you for your support and enjoy the summer!

Summer Tutoring
This school year brought with it many challenges. Students should be looking to finish this school year as strong as possible while any academic deficiencies need to be addressed to ensure future success.
This summer presents an opportunity for students of all ages to catch up on any school subjects they have fallen behind on, especially in cumulative courses like math, where each prior year builds on the last. Whether your student needs to catch up on course content, or get a head start on preparing for the SAT/ACT, contact us to set up a call to discuss their academic situation and what Ivy Experience can do to support them.

GVCO CHOOSES LOCAL COMMUNITY BANK & LONG TIME PARTNER FOR NEW GVCO COMMUNITY CENTER PROJECT
GVCO recently announced it has chosen Meridian Bank to handle its financing needs with our new GVCO Community Center project. An appraisal of the property has been ordered and our GVCO Board, along with MacElree Harvey, Ltd are finalizing the terms of the loan. IMC Construction, GVCO’s general contractor, is finalizing the construction budget and timeline for Meridian.
Our GVCO Board felt it was important to choose a local banking partner who also has a vested interest in our Great Valley community. Meridian was a logical choice beyond the outlined initial terms. Chris Annas, the bank's founder has long-lasting ties to our community and GVCO…having lived here and his kids participating in GVCO programming. Meridian was also the bank chosen back in 2005 when GVBL needed a Letter of Credit in order to open the old GVBL Center on Bacton Hill Rd.
GVCO looks forward to continuing to work with our long time banking partner Meridian Bank, to bring this wonderful community asset, the new GVCO Community Center to fruition for entire community to enjoy.
