BIG NEWS! Our 2022 BGC San Dieguito Youth

of the Year winner Kyra Dominguez went on to represent our Club in the BGC countywide competition last Friday and WON!

In the midst of 3 other very worthy and amazingly composed candidates from BGC Oceanside, San Marcos, & Greater San Diego, Kyra’s humor and eloquent presentation prevailed.

Kyra will go on to the State Competition on March 21st in Sacramento as the San Diego representative. Congratulations, Kyra, we are so proud of you!

Representation Matters

As part of our SMART Girls program, our Encinitas Griset Clubhouse teens researched Black women in history who are making or have made an impact on our society.

This session's theme was “Representation Matters”. Teens made collages to represent what these influential Black women did or are doing to help others.

Learning Life Skills in the Kitchen After School

The rain is causing our crops to produce an abundance of broccoli, greens, and lemons. We're not complaining!

Members of our After-School Program used the crops to make broccoli cheddar soup, cauliflower tater tots, and dumplings.

The kids also had a lot of fun making homemade vanilla ice-cream the old-fashioned way, shaking it in a Ziplock bag with ice and rock salt!

Volunteers

Marc Levin

Volunteer Roles: Head Big 8 Football Coach, and co-Coach for Track and Field at Earl Warren M.S.

"Being the father of two daughters, I never got the chance to coach boys teams. Working with kids and helping develop young minds to learn the value of teamwork and achieving goals, while executing a plan together, motivates me. My grandfather often said it is easy to write a check but giving back your time and talent is so much more meaningful. Outside of my BGCSDTO involvement, I enjoy supporting minority business owners through my pro bono work."

SDSU Volunteers For

STEAM & Play Friday

Students and staff from the SDSU Aztec Unity Project mentored our Polster youth in Carmel Valley during STEAM & Play Friday. Our members went toe to toe with the college kids, making slime, building marshmallow towers, making their own fidget spinners. We look forward to more interactions from our SDSU partners!

Community

BGC San Dieguito:

the first Friend of Ting

in the San Diego region!

March 8th was the launch of our new Ting fiber internet service at our Harper facility in Solana Beach.

The installation and transition required trenching, an overhaul of our servers and reconfiguration of our systems. Thanks to the Friends of Ting program and their partners, the process was “high speed and crazy fast,” with no interruption in service! The program allows our facility to receive complimentary installation and service for one year. After that, cost is nominal. Our kids and administrative offices can now do their work in the most up-to-date and efficient way possible.

The Friends of Ting program provides access to those in need, helping individuals and non-profits, and community organizations advance their mission.

The County of San Diego Proclaims February 13 as "Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Day"

Thank you to our Solana Beach neighbors for joining us on February 13th for a meet and greet with County Board of Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer. Also in attendance was Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner. This was a great opportunity to meet neighbors and discuss some of the issues that are most important to our community. Supervisor Lawson-Remer toured our Harper Clubhouse and Teen Center, met with Solana Beach residents, and held a Q&A. Of course, our highlight of the evening was the Supervisor's proclamation of February 13, 2023 as "Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Day" honoring the tremendous impact we've had on our community over the past 57 years.

Jake’s Del Mar: Doing

Business With a Heart

Big thanks to our friends and longtime supporters, Jake’s Del Mar.

Proceeds from their January fundraiser which brought back menu favorites throughout the years, resulted in a $5,000 donation to our La Colonia Clubhouse! The fundraiser was just one in a long line of giving for the iconic restaurant.

Funds enable us to continue to provide safe, educational, and fun programs at little to no cost to the youth and families in our Eden Gardens community.

North County Sheriff's Station and Cali Cream:

a sweet combo!

The North County Sheriff Station set up a Fundraiser with Cali Cream on 101 in Encinitas, raising a little over $1,400.

With this donation, Deputies purchased school necessities.

As seen here, Deputies came to our Griset Clubhouse, handing out totes to our members and filled them with school supplies.

ROSS Gives Back

Thanks to Ross Dress For Less in Encinitas for "Helping Local Kids Learn" by collecting donations at checkout for three weeks. Proceeds benefitted our Griset Clubhouse Power Hour Program.

Supporting Sponsors Who Support Us

Thanks to Bushfire Kitchen for donating 100 healthy, hot, and TASTY meals to our staff.

With food this good, even our kids ate all their veggies!
