2023 ACAC SUMMER ART CAMPS:
JUNE & JULY 2022 | AGES 6-15

Your child can experience the transformative effect of contemporary art! ACAC is offering an opportunity for students to create and play using everyday objects and experiment with different art mediums. 

Students are encouraged to think creatively, create narratives and challenge themselves to learn new artistic expression techniques. Classes will include fabrics and textiles, drawing, painting, theater, and mixed media projects. ACAC Art Camps are designed for children ages 6 and older; children ages 5 and under will not be admitted.

June 5th - 9th | 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Fabrics Magic Camp
*Ages 11-15*
Instructors: Mary Franklin King & Jenny Irizarry
Explore everything from batik to patchwork and stuffed animals, to dyed fabric. Learn how to make creative compositions using fabric. Painting, drawing, and weaving will also be part of the fun.

June 12th - 16th | 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Soynika's Art Sampler
*Ages 6-10*
Instructor: Soynika Edwards-Bush
Students will explore different art mediums including paint, clay, collage, color, mixed media watercolor, drawing, and movement with local artist Soynika Edwards-Bush.

June 19th – June 23rd | 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Mastering the Classics
*Ages 11-15*
Instructor: Elizabeth Brooks
Time travel through art history with artist Elizabeth Brooks. Campers will use paint, sculpture, and mixed media to create expressive interpretations of portraiture and landscape while looking at examples from the masters throughout art history.

July 26th - 30th | 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Reading Imagination Camp

Explore the illustrations of your favorite books by making paintings and art projects that tell fantastic stories with local artist Fran Carvajal.

July 10th - 14th | 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Caricatures in Clay Camp

Instructors: Donna Kemp & Zak Todd
Get your hands dirty! Draw your own characters, learn the basics of sketching and illustration, then make it 3D. Campers will experiment with clay techniques and create their own ceramic sculptures.

July 17th - 21st | 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Think Like and Artist Art Sampler

Students will explore different art mediums including painting, ceramics, sewing, collage, mixed media, and more.

July 17th - 21st | 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.: Theater & Costume Making

Instructors: Courtney Matthews & Nadine Andrews
This camp, led by local creatives Courtney Matthews & Nadine Andrews, will focus on exploring emotions through theatrical exercises and creating fun costumes. Students will create their own authentic character, and imagine their wardrobe, make-up and staging. Bring your personality out and learn to express yourself through costume design and performance!
Central Arts Collective is the home of 15+ artists who rent out formally unused space at Central Presbyterian Church to use as studio space. Each artist occupies their own studio, working independently and collaborating with others in the Collective as much as they like. Some of these artists are hosting arts classes this summer. July 5th - 28th | 9 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.: 3rd Floor Art Camp
*Ages 7-15*
3rd Floor Art Camp is holding weekly art camps all summer for budding artists aged 7 - 15! Each week focuses on a specific art movement, and kids will make projects while learning about the people and ideas behind that week's art theme. Camp runs Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Every Friday is Drop-In Day for kids who only want one day of art. Weekly: $250/camper, Friday Drop-In Day $65. Your child brings their lunch, and we provide two daily snacks. 3rd Floor Art Camp takes place on the 3rd floor of Central Midtown at 1260 Dauphin Street, the corner of Dauphin and Ann. Students at Classical Ballet have the opportunity to train from pre-school through advanced levels. They will gain performance experience, participate in outreach service within our community, and become eligible to dance with the Company. Curriculum is based on the traditional classical ballet syllabus.

Coastal Makers Art Studio is the brainchild of local artist and maker, Kari Ransom. It is a place for anyone interested in the arts to create, no experience required. If you've been strolling through Downtown Mobile, you may have seen Kari's Studio happily bringing creativity to the area on Joachim Street. Coastal Makers also offers classes in Robertsdale. LITTLE Hands can create the most FANTASTIC of heart that yield the BIGGEST of reactions! These little artists will tap into creativity like never before. You won't see a crayon in this art class. Michelle Kearney will teach fun, exciting lessons that promote intuition, motor skills, and more.

Join legendary ESAC instructor and photographer Jessie Patterson in studio 2! Armed with iPhone cameras and a sense of adventure, Jessie will lead students in capturing the world around them. From composition to editing, students are sure to “get the picture” in this teen art camp!

Join Christine Falls for My Life in Collage! In this camp, students will learn how to organize, layer, and shape unique collages. Students are encouraged to bring in magazines, pictures, old t-shirts, books, and any other materials they would like to take apart and add to their work.

Explore every corner of the artist's toolbox in one week. Taking from popular artists and the masters, Breanna Earl will engage the students in a variety of art lessons. Make some space on the walls because this art bash camp is sure to produce frame worthy, vibrant work while instilling creativity and curiosity.

Summer music camps are the perfect time to learn a new instrument, play in a band, practice your instrument, and have a great time performing together. All instruments and ability levels are welcome! Snacks are provided but students should bring lunch if they are staying for the Full session. Beginners and more experienced players are welcome!

July 17th - July 21st: Piano, Guitar, and Strings
Prices between $140 and $220/week

STUDENTS PERFORM A CONCERT EACH FRIDAY
AFTERCARE IS AVAILABLE FROM 7 A.M. TO 6 P.M. EVERY DAY DURING CAMP FOR $60 EXTRA.

The Marcus Johnson Summer Jazz Camp requires each student to have their own instrument and possess the ability to play music scales. Exploreum Academies are hands-on educational experiences that dive into a variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) concepts and offer student-led activities and projects. The mission is to enhance the student experience and foster an environment of curiosity and exploration. All classes will be focused on STEAM education themes. These will include, but are not limited to, engineering, biology, music, art, culture, environmental and health. From these highlighted topics, students will be given the chance to illustrate their knowledge with an activity or project that will be displayed at the end of each session to share with parents and guests. Session hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Check-in takes place from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Check-out takes place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each Academy class has a capacity of 15 students.

Summer day camps at both Mobile and Eastern Shore studios offer the chance to try classical ballet or jazz at all ages and enhances dancers’ year-round training.

Summer Intensives and master classes offering the most advanced pre-professional training are also available.

Every dancer will have opportunities to train, improve, and have fun this summer at Mobile Ballet. New students welcome!

Transform your child’s summer with an exciting week of adventure! Planned for rising 3rd through 5th graders, this program is designed to instill a love of outdoor adventure and appreciation of nature.
Set amidst the 106-acre mobile Botanical Gardens, a rich, ecologically diverse site in the Langan City Park, daily activities are perfect for discovery and exploration. All activities and classes are outdoors, under a covered pavilion or in an open-air classroom.

MMofA’s art camps offer in-depth art knowledge with fun hands-on art activities for ages 5 – 16. Taught by trained art professionals, each class is customized by age group to explore concepts relating to the elements and principles of art, famous artists, and the MMofA museum collection. Tours in the galleries — including FOR CHILDREN: The Elements of Art & Design and Fantastical Forest — enhance students’ understanding and allow for fun interactive experiences.
All camps will run Monday through Friday with the exception of June 20-23, which falls on Juneteenth. To fit into your busy summer schedule, campers can register for the morning session (9 a.m. – noon), the afternoon session (1 – 4 p.m.), or the full-day session (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.).

The mission of the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department is to increase the social, emotional, and physical well-being of our community by providing diverse activities in secure & welcoming spaces.

They will once again have summer camps available to families starting on June 5th and ending on August 4th, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The camps are targeted to children ages 5 - 15.

The mission of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra is to enhance lives by achieving the highest standards in live symphonic music and music education.
MSO's Summer Strings program will begin on June 12th and end on July 20th. The program accommodates children in grades K-12.

Classes include:
SUMMER SUZUKI INSTITUTE (Mobile)
Ages 4-7, violin, viola, cello. Pre-Twinkle class no experience; Twinkle class 6months+ experience. Instrument not included. Parents must attend class.

SUMMER MUSIC THEORY IS FUN (Mobile)
Grades 4-8. Note reading fundamentals. No experience. Materials will be provided.

SUMMER MOBILE BEGINNER STRINGS (Mobile and Eastern Shore)
Ages 7-12, violin, viola, cello. No experience. Instrument not included.

SUMMER STRINGS- ANDANTE GROUP (Mobile and Eastern Shore)

At Round But Square Studios, children are given the opportunity to explore creating art with less emphasis on the finished product. Without restrictions, they are given the experience to explore where they learn to think outside the box while gaining confidence in the process. Check out what they have to offer this summer!

Have you ever seen a whale with a polka dot tail? Down by the bay camp will explore and create using a variety of art materials. Boys and girls alike will love this camp! We will paint, collage, and sculpt all things Mobile Bay. Think… sunsets, crabs, fishing, boating, sailboats, piers, cast nets, Middle Bay Light, and more. You don’t want to miss this one!

June 26th - 29th: SUMMER ART BASH!

Summer is in full swing and we are going to celebrate by cooling off in the studio making some bright, creative pieces! Join us as we paint, collage, sculpt, and have some mixed media fun! This camp is for the art lover who enjoys making and trying new things and doesn’t mind getting messy making their masterpieces!
Sunny Side Theater’s Drama Camps have been a Mobile fixture since 2002. What started as a two-week camp has turned into a full-time summer program meeting the needs of kids and families desiring an immersive experience.

Several different theatre camps will be offered this summer. Don't miss out on this opportunity for your child to gain public speaking skills, friendships, confidence, and more!

A brief description of what will be offered this summer at Sunny Side:
Original Drama Camp - Put on full-length shows complete with sets, costumes, and fun! Activities include drama games, outdoor water games, set painting, and more!

Drama Camp Jr - Sunny Side's youngest performers learn a script in one week. Camps focus on basics of acting skills by exploring costumes and characters!

Musical Theater Intensive: Join a guest director as she takes campers through the process of producing an ENTIRE musical in one week complete with sets, costumes, and more!

Rising Stars camp directed by Eric Browne for high schoolers only! Produce a hilarious comedy over the course of two weeks.

Glee camp is for singers and this year's theme is Taylor Swift! Join us to be part of a concert full of Disney, Broadway, and pop songs!
