First of all, there's no way to tell you how moved I was by the flood of supportive messages I received following
my recent Sarah's Science update
. Your kind words reinforced everything I believe about the importance of the experience you, your children, my staff, and I have worked together to create. Helping children establish a lifelong love of learning and the outdoors has always been my passion. Needless to say, I am doing everything I can to avoid bankruptcy and keep this enthusiasm for science and nature alive.
June is rapidly approaching. Many of you have already signed up for the first two weeks of camp, and, of course, you want to know if it will be possible for us to hold those sessions. In an effort to be able to give you concrete answers, I've met twice with the top officials at the East Bay Regional Park District. At the most recent of these meetings, they told me that since the parks will remain closed to camps until at least mid-June, we won't be able to offer programs during that time period. This means we will not be offering camps the first two weeks (June 1-5 and June 8-12).
As for the rest of our scheduled summer programs, the Park District and I are waiting to see what guidelines and restrictions the Health Department is going to establish regulating the reopening of outdoor day camps. I will share that information as soon as I receive it.
I've now completed the application process for the Payroll Protection Program and am hoping to learn that I'll receive enough to cover my business expenses until it is possible for me to move ahead with our regular camp schedules. My goal is to figure out how to provide some summer activities, but I'm more confident that everything will be in place for our fall after-school programs. As outlined in my earlier update, the full amount of all monies already paid can be applied to any Sarah's Science programs at least through 12/31/21. My commitment to you and your children remains strong. I am doing and will continue to do everything in my power to make sure Sarah's Science is there for all of us for many years to come.
