Volunteer Update
 July 13, 2018
Dear CRC Volunteer,

Thank YOU and our amazing volunteers who have supported CRC in many ways this past month! Some ways you have given back? Sorting books, working in the resale stores and Food Center, administrative help, marketing and fundraising help ... and more. We could not care for our neighbors in need without your support and partnership!
Guess that Volunteer Location!

Do you recognize this place?  Send your guess to Volunteer Manager Sara Rosenbaum and your name will be entered into a drawing for a Starbuck’s card! Have a fun photo of another CRC volunteer location? Send it our way and it may be featured in a future newsletter.
The Latest Ways to Get Involved This Summer!
Summer Care Drives

Thank you to all who donated last month to keep our shelves stocked! We continue to need community donations of food and personal care items for our neighbors in need. If you would like to donate, please visit our Amazon Wish List, or to host a drive, visit our website for a flyer and more information. You can drop off items at our location at 650 2nd Street during operating hours, M-Th 9-2:30.
Holiday Baskets

Believe it or not, it's already time to start thinking about the holidays! We are looking for some high-level volunteer involvement for the 2018 Holiday Baskets season! All positions will be volunteer, non-paid positions that will provide on-site training and lots of smiles.

Please email Sara Rosenbaum , Volunteer Manager, if you would like to sign up or be considered for one of our Holiday Baskets positions .
Summer Volunteering

Here are a few other ways you can get involved this summer:

  • Deep cleaning at our Resale Stores on Sunday, August 19
  • Painting of 2-3 bedroom units
  • Lead a third shift on Fridays at our Food & Nutrition Center

Find out details on each of these opportunities on our website .
SPOTLIGHT ON: A Legacy of Volunteering
Many of you may have seen our “Keep CRC Truckin” campaign to replace one of our delivery trucks. The following explanation was given to CRC of how our truck, lovingly named “Fred,” received its name:

Fred Flihan was a long-time volunteer at Community Resource Center. He was a handyman and helped make renovations at our domestic violence shelter and transitional housing. He also helped drive our delivery truck and pick up food and donations throughout the year and especially during Holiday Baskets.

We named our delivery truck after Fred to honor him for his generosity.

Fred passed away last year. He will be remembered by many CRC staff, clients and supporters, especially those who volunteered for Holiday Baskets.

This amazing story gets better.  Not only does it highlight the value of our volunteers (which includes all of you!), it shows that a heart of service can pass down generations. Diane Root, Fred’s daughter, is now an invaluable volunteer at our San Marcos Resale Store. It is only fitting that …

This month’s volunteer of the month is DIANE ROOT, nominated by Mary Cunningham at the San Marcos Resale Store.

“Diane is a lifesaver! She helps wherever its needed and works hard to help the store. All of our customers love her!”

- Mary Cunningham, Assistant Store Manager

Congratulations, Diane! All of your hard work and dedication helps CRC care for those in need!
Thank you for your ongoing support!
