August 2016

Ahhh, one more month of summer, and we can't think of a better quote than this one:

A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken. ~James Dent

Let's hope you have one of our wonderful summertime wines to enjoy when that lawnmower is broken. Be sure to pick up a bottle of our Cerasuolo (Rose'), Pecorino and Chardonnay and relax!

Enjoy the last days of summer!

Did You Know?

During the prohibition period in the United States, grape juice concentrate manufacturers took advantage of the big drinking lust Americans had and put a great warning sticker on their product saying "After you mix the concentrate with water, please do not keep the mix in a barrel for 20 days - as it will turn into wine."

Summer Farro Salad with Shrimp

Summer Farro Salad with Shrimp
Summer Farro Salad with Shrimp

Farro is a great grain for making soups or salads. In the height of summer it can
combined with just about any selection of vegetables, tossed with a light  vinaigrette, and topped with a protein for a delicious and nutritious meal. There
are several different types of farro, the one grown in Abruzzi is technically known
as emmer. Another type grown in Germany is known as spelt. While there are some differences, depending on where you live, you will probably just find farro. Read the cooking directions on the package, because some need to be soaked overnight before cooking. This grain has a wonderful nutty flavor and I know you will enjoy this version, but I hope you will experiment and add different ingredients and come with some of your own variations. It goes great with our Martin Ulisse Trebbiano, the water of Abruzzi.

Featured Wine
Martin Ulisse Trebbiano
Reminiscent of a pinot grigio or an un-oaked chardonnay, the Trebbiano is a light bodied, off-dry, crowd pleaser with the delicate flavors of pear, and apple. This mellow lightly fruity white has a hint of minerality. Its crisp clean finish makes it an "easy to drink" wine which can be had alone, or chilled on a hot summer day and yet compliments any meal.
