Summer Food Drive Wraps Up with 37,396 Pounds of Food Donated

 Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who donated food as part of the Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation Summer 2024 Food Drive. Food donations during the event totaled 37,396 pounds - that's 75% of our 50,000-pound goal. We are very appreciative of each and every one of the 421 donations. The latest statistics show that the Cupboard continues to experience a 27% increase in clients (the number of households served) compared to a 5% increase in food donations.

Thanks again to our amazing community for your continued support!

Cupboard Celebrates with Food Lion at Grocery Store's Grand Relaunch

Because of the close relationship the Food Cupboard has with Food Lion #938 (on Main Street), store manager Rich Meuse invited the Holly Springs Food Cupboard to be part of the ribbon-cutting celebration for the grand relaunching event.

Food Cupboard Board of Directors members helped Food Lion celebrate. In addition to being part of the welcoming event for all customers and the raffle, the Food Cupboard received Food Lion gift cards to apply toward the Cupboard's grocery bills.

Many thanks to Food Lion!

Say hello to Lindsay, a volunteer who accepts donations each month from her neighbors in Trinity Creek as part of the PORCH Holly Springs, NC program

Addison is leading our newest PORCH Holly Springs, NC community at Holly Glen!

Volunteers like Lindsay and Addison who lead PORCH in their neighborhoods are amazing! They ensure the Cupboard receives regular donations, instead of just seasonal, which really helps!  Learn more about how to get a PORCH started in YOUR neighborhood!

Donors from the Kirk of Holly Springs, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and Sylvan Learning Center donated bookbags and school supplies to help set local children up for success in the new school year.

Carlos Alvarez of Alvarez Painting worked with Sherwin Williams on a Paint It Forward project for the Cupboard. Sherwin Williams donated the paint, and Alvarez Painting provided all the labor to paint our ramp, window frames, bench, loading dock, and shed over the course of two weekends. The Cupboard looks great!

We are so thankful to have recently received a FarmsSHARE grant, administered by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association and delivered by The Produce Box! With this grant, the Produce Box is bringing us 100 boxes of produce especially for our clients each week for 10 weeks!

We absolutely LOVE our partnerships with local businesses - especially when they bring us hundreds of pounds of nonperishable items and continue to be a community drop-off location where residents can conveniently leave food donations for the Cupboard! Triangle Wine Company Holly Springs and Triangle Wine Company Cary: Thank you for helping with our summer food drive by offering your week-long “Pours For a Purpose” event!

HUGE shout out to the Holly Springs Rotary Club for really helping us! On a normal Thursday distribution, the Cupboard typically makes 10-12 deliveries. But, because of Tropical Storm Debby, the Cupboard had a record 32 deliveries that needed to go out in one day last month. The Rotary Club stepped up in a big way, sending drivers for nearly half of the deliveries, with Cupboard volunteers completing the rest. Thank you!

This anonymous donation takes the cake! Here’s a photo of a very generous donation of 70 boxes of cereal in celebration of the donor’s 70th birthday!

Please say hello to the sweetest Lemondade Stand Team - Mayukha, Atharv and Everly! In June, these kids held open a lemonade stand for free for their community. Any donation they received for their efforts was collected for the Cupboard, and they raised nearly $80! Thank you!

We are so blessed to have volunteers who also helped us spread the word about our summer food drive campaign. Thanks to Kathryn, her adorable son Miles, and the great folks at Oak Village Academy Holly Springs for putting together a much-needed food drive for the Cupboard last month!

Many thanks to Goodwill Industries of Eastern NC for their contributions of four pallets of food and a significant donation towards our Food Lion grocery bills. The donation will be used to purchase fresh milk, eggs, meat, cereal, dry pasta, and other needs.

Say “Hello” to the Chicken Rangers! This group of children helps care for our chickens, and they enjoyed making ice cream this day.

Cupboard Garden Activity

For more information, email garden@hsfoodcupboard.org.

Ten mothers/daughters of the National Charity League, Inc., Carolina Lily Chapter worked in the garden harvesting, weeding, and putting in seeds and transplants. Their work helped prepare the garden for our fall and winter harvests!

Children who are not old enough to volunteer inside the Cupboard can devote their energy to helping outside in the Cupboard garden. Several times this summer, special activities for kids helped them learn about the "garden-life." Pictured here is long-time Cupboard volunteer Angela, who shared fascinating facts and stories about butterflies and their larvae with several of our young volunteers. Our youth gardening activities will start again next Spring!

In July and August, we harvested about 40 lbs. of six varieties of tomatoes each week from our Food Cupboard garden. They are so fresh and tasty, and they are types you can’t find in the local grocery stores. Thanks to the many volunteers who help make this possible.
