Things to Do Along the Ohio River

Take some time to experience the riverside in Southern Indiana. SoIN is brimming with options for riverside fun, including patio dining, outdoor recreation, concerts and events.

Have a riverside daycation, enjoying the scenic views at Falls of the Ohio State Park, followed by patio dining at KingFish on the River or one of Jeffersonville’s other riverside restaurants. Snap a selfie with the commemorative Rosie the Riveter statue in Clarksville, then walk just across the road to Widow’s Walk Ice Creamery for a sweet treat. With back-to-school shopping in full swing, SoIN offers great shopping spots for a wardrobe update! Southern Indiana is home to dozens of retail stores, upscale boutiques and vintage shops.

Make a back-to-school fashion statement with shops like Tru Bliss Boutique in Jeffersonville or Dress & Dwell in New Albany. Shop for new and gently used clothing at Eureka! Menswear or Mariposa Consignments in New Albany. Vintage clothing and accessory lovers should also check out 812 Vintage and The Odd Shop in New Albany. Find even more in the Clarksville shopping corridor and local boutiques in Sellersburg.

Live Music in Southern Indiana

Live music is one of the many things that makes SoIN so great! From festivals to restaurant patio performances to the old favorite dive bar, there are plenty of options to catch a good live music experience almost any night of the week.

While summer concerts like Jammin in Jeff and New Albany’s Bicentennial Summer Concert Series are ending soon, there are still places that offer great live music year-round. Enjoy dinner and a show at either of the SoIN Parlour locations or grab a drink and enjoy some live music at Hugh E. Bir in New Albany. The Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany is partnering with the National AIDS Memorial to display blocks from “The Quilt,” the world’s largest community arts project memorializing those who have passed. The exhibit is on display from August 1-19, with special events on August 1, 8 and 19.

The largest hot rod show in Kentuckiana returns this summer! Join fellow car-lovers from across the world at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, KY August 3 - 6 for the 54th Annual NSRA Street Rod Nationals. This year's show kicks off with a parade on August 2.

The place to be for live entertainment this summer is Jeffersonville RiverStage for the Shoe Sensation Jammin’ in Jeff concert series. Enjoy acts Classic Rock Experience, First & Main, The Juice Box Heroes and Big Steel Train this August!

Enjoy a morning of learning at Howard Steamboat Museum during their annual River Ramblings lecture series on August 6. This year’s lecture, "Steamer CAPE GIRARDEAU - A 100-Year Retrospective,” will be a fascinating look into steamboat history with a nod to their future.

Cool cars, tasty eats, and live music will be at Charlestown’s inaugural Food Truck Challenge happening August 11. Enjoy music by The Rumors as five awesome food trucks – Big Nita's Cheesecakes, Café Lomez, Mar Concessions, SpudBank and Yello Sno battle in a voter-decided championship!

Experience "The Buddy Holly Story" a sensational musical about the bespectacled 1950’s rock n’ roll icon at Derby Dinner Playhouse from August 16 – September 24. This non-stop entertaining rock show recounts Holly’s meteoric rise to fame and the impact he left on the industry after his untimely death.

Can you figure out who killed Ruby Belle Castle? Cruise the Ohio River aboard the Belle of Louisville, enjoy a delicious dinner and help solve a murder mystery during, “Murder and the Belle of Idlewild!” on August 18.

Beat the heat for FREE at Silver Street Park in New Albany on August 19 during Water Wars. Race your friends down the water slides, enjoy the splash pad, water tables and water sensory activities, or bring your own water gun and head to one of the Soak Zones for the ultimate water war experience!

Coming all the way from Music City, catch the Nashville Tenors at Derby Dinner Playhouse on August 21! Showcasing the “country crossover” genre, the trio will perform classic hits, current chart toppers and everything in between. Tickets include dinner, show and parking.
