A core initiative of HoopHers is “A Women’s Word,” featuring female mentors of diverse backgrounds, careers, ages and cultures to engage and empower the girls to succeed. “A Women’s Word” provides a safe space to address the opportunities and challenges that female student athletes face, such as health, nutrition, self-esteem, stress management, and tools for academic success. This summer’s speakers included:
, Superintendent, Camden City School District;
, Councilwoman, City of Camden and former Camden High basketball player;
, Federal Law Enforcement Officer;
, Licensed Cosmetologist and Business Owner;
, Award-Winning Writer, Public Speaker, Trainer and Personal Development Coach.
, WNBA Hall of Famer and former Camden High basketball star, was the featured speaker at the HoopHers closing ceremony held on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Rutgers-Camden Gymnasium
. Still energized the young athletes with an inspiring speech followed by a basketball clinic with the Sixers. The event also featured a performance by the 76ers Dunk Squad.
“CHAA was thrilled to expand our summer programming to include a basketball program just for girls,” said Al Dyer, Athletic Executive Director of CHAA. “Led by strong female coaches and mentors, HoopHers empowered our players on and off the court.”
