March  2018
A message from ACO Chief Operating Officer,
MARJORIE VANESKAHIAN BURR

I can't believe that summer is here ALREADY! Just a few days left of school until the kids are out. That means lazy days for our teens who can now sleep-in after staying up late, fun times playing outside and splashing in the pool, OR for some kids it means going hungry all day.

Have you seen the face of a hungry child? I have, and it is heart-breaking.  It's hard to imagine that in Allen and throughout Collin County that 1 in 4 children are food insecure. There are hundreds of students that receive free and reduced breakfasts and lunches at school. But with that resource gone during the summer months, their parents' grocery bills go up and their pantry supplies go down. For many local families it is a real hardship.

Each summer, with the support of donors throughout our community, ACO has provided 1200+ bags of summertime kids' food. That means each bag has easy to prepare favorites for kids to fix and eat, as well as nutritious fruits, dairy, meats and more. In order to provide bags for kids every 2 weeks throughout the summer, it takes a lot of groceries as you can imagine. Thanks to the members of Creekwood United Methodist Church for getting the program started with 900 bags, we are ready for summer! And with your help of additional donations throughout July and early August, we will ensure that no child is hungry under our watch all summer long. For more information about the program see below.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Our Spring Giving Campaign just ended with receiving more than $20,000. Thanks to each and every contributor for your support of ACO programs and services. It is only with your help that we can prevent hunger and homelessness.

On behalf of our Chief Executive Officer, Monty Moore and our entire staff, we thank you for your many gifts of time, money and donated goods. You are our partners in helping families rise from poverty and attain self-sufficiency. Have a wonderful summer, and thank you for being our partner in all you do to support ACO!
Donors come in all sizes!

Each Wednesday, ACO highlights our young volunteers and donors who are making a difference in our community.

Thank you to our recent youth groups for all of your hard work and donations to ACO programs.

Recent "ACO DAYS" were held at Allen ISD Elementary Schools, Vaughan, Green, Boon and Cheatham. Allen High School PALS have been regular volunteers each week, helping in the food pantry, the resale shop and the office. Evans Elementary 6th Graders are putting together 120 ACO Kids Summer Food Bags for the program.  Lovejoy ISD students were also  collecting items in their neighborhoods for ACO families in need.

Thank you to all of our young donors, their parents and their teachers for supporting volunteerism and giving in our community.
