The experience of one Summer Student!
"During my time with the SSSBC (Senior Services Society of BC), I had many different opportunities that helped me develop a deeper understanding of how I could present myself to clients in my future practice. Walking into my practicum placement with the SSSBC, I wanted to learn how I could integrate the skills that I had learned about and discussed in my classes, into my practice. Throughout my time at my placement, I had multiple opportunities to engage with clients and learn about the struggles they faced. I also had the chance to work with the SSS staff to help older adults find affordable and accessible housing, as well as help them connect with other support services.
I genuinely appreciate all of the learning and practical opportunities I was given during my time with the SSSBC, and I will carry the knowledge I gained into my future practice."

Volunteer Voice
New for the Beat! Every quarter we will feature one Volunteer who will provide insight on their time with SSSBC.

We asked Graeme Mackinnon, our Grocery Ordering volunteer, "How does it feel to volunteer?" His answer:

“It takes you out of your own thinking and it provides the ability to hear someone else’s story.”

We thank Graeme for his 8 years of service to SSSBC!
The Beat is now a digital newsletter and we welcome your feedback!
