The Hartford Yard Goats play the Portland Sea Dogs at Dunkin’ Donuts Park on August 31. Hartford Public Library has 799 seats for the game.
You can be there if you complete your goals for Summer Learning.
The Library had 787 people register and commit to its Build a Better World Summer Learning Program through Beanstack online. We look forward to seeing everyone at the game. Finish your goals and pick up your ticket at any branch!

Watch the Solar Eclipse Safely

Pick Up Your NASA Glasses At HPL Branches
A solar eclipse is happening Monday, August 21. It will be visible as a partial eclipse in Hartford, beginning at 1:25 pm, hitting its peak at 2:45 pm and ending at 3:59 pm.
NASA has distributed glasses for safe viewing. Pick them up at any Hartford Public Library Branch.
NASA is also live streaming the eclipse from noon to 4 pm EST..
Hartford residents with valid ID can pick up free passes to the Connecticut Science Center during August. The center is holding
Solar Eclipse events.

The Cigna Foundation Health Improvement Tour returns to the Downtown Library.No appointment is necessary. Health screening is free. You do not need to be a Cigna customer.
Biometric screenings: Quest Diagnostics will help you learn your four critical health numbers: blood pressure; cholesterol; blood sugar; and Body Mass Index. No fasting required.
Health coaches can to talk about your results and answer health-related questions.

New Service Hours Begin September 5
Hartford Public Library will launch expanded hours and days of service on Tuesday, September 5.
The Albany Avenue and Park Street Branch libraries will be open 17 more hours per week, including Saturdays. The Camp Field, Dwight and Barbour Branch libraries will be open an additional 10 hours per week. The Downtown Library will open at 9:30 each morning, resulting in three additional hours per week.
Blue Hills, Mark Twain, and Goodwin Branches will be open fewer hours through Dec. 31.
At least three library locations will be open each week night until 8 pm. We will have robust staffing at each location and be able to enhance outreach, programming and mobile services. We look forward to continuing our dialog with the community about the future of library services, particularly in those neighborhoods where service has been impacted.

Submissions due August 31
Create an original design for a poster that will inspire others to visit HPL and sign up for a library card. Direct the viewer to a specific activity that can be accomplished by visiting the Library.

Time To Try Tied Weaves: Hartford Artisans Weaving Center Exhibition
July 10-September 30
Every year the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center challenges its members to learn a new structure or technique. Tied weaves produce intricate patterns and textured looks. The artisans often used two or more shuttles carrying different wefts. All the weft threads are “tied” to the warp at regular intervals to produce a stable and durable fabric.

ArtWalk 2018-19 submissions now open

The ArtWalk puts on four exhibitions each year between August 1 and November 1. Artists in all media are invited to submit a body of work. .
Artists living and/or working in the MetroHartford area will be given priority. Students, emerging, or established artists are all eligible.

New Hours For The Kitchen

|
The Kitchen at Hartford Public Library has a new look and new hours.
Starting the week of August 28, the Kitchen will be open from 8 am to 8 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hours on Mondays and Fridays remain 8 am to 4 pm.
The Kitchen was closed August 7-11 for remodeling. It reopens Monday, August 14.
