SENIOR SOLUTIONS : A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO SELLING YOUR HOME WITH CONFIDENCE (PART 1)

After months, perhaps years of contemplation and discussions with others, the decision has finally been made to sell your home. The time has come to simplify your life and unburden yourself from caring for a house or condo. Selling a home at any stage of life can be an emotional process. A home is a haven that holds countless memories and is often a gathering place for loved ones. Many seniors live in homes that have belonged to their families for generations. How does one let go of all that? I can offer some guidance from years of experience, with past clients as well as my personal experience with my family. I know firsthand even though home sales may appear to be more complex when they happen later in life, it does not need to be the case.

Safety and Fall Prevention Tips with
Kathy O’Neel Webster
Rhode Island's Senior Safety and
Fall Prevention Specialist

Falls are Preventable!!
Call Kathy today for her ‘3E’ Strategy!

1 in 3 adults over the age of 65 falls each year and 50% of those over age 80.
Falls are the leading cause of death due to injury for those over 65.
Of those who survive a fall, 50% never return to their prior level of mobility or independence.

#1 - EVALUATE - Ongoing evaluation is critical throughout the aging journey as environments, individuals and care teams evolve.

Senior Home Safety Assessments take a look at your whole environment and potential risks for falls.

Evaluate your current physical and mental risk level to understand your baseline of muscular strength, aerobic endurance, flexibility, agility, and dynamic balance. Maintaining these areas of fitness are key in preventing falls.

Ensure the Care Team, which may be made up of family, friends, professionals and/or a combination thereof, is in a communication loop for appropriate and ongoing care.

#2 - EDUCATE - Ongoing education is important to understand the normal aging process and learn how to age safely and strong.

Aging brings predictable changes to all of our five senses: Hearing, Vision, Touch, Smell and Taste. If you recognize that a certain amount of sensory loss is a normal part of aging, you can be on the lookout for warning signs  and identify ways to cope before these deficits become dangerous.

#3 - ELEVATE - Be proactive and maintain your strength and mobility to age safely at home.

Participate in balance training and physical activity, and eat healthy for weight stability.
