Acquisition | BMA Announces Diverse Array of Acquisitions Across Museum Departments including additional works by Joyce J. Scott. Baltimore-based artist Joyce J. Scott is represented by Goya Contemporary Gallery and is, as stated by the BMA press release “…among the most important American artists living and working today.” Her five-decade career comprises sculpture, jewelry, beadwork, performance, installation, printmaking, and community practice. Objects recently acquired by the BMA represent a range of chronology including “a rare example of Scott’s 1970s soft sculpture…representing Scott’s earliest pursuits as a fiber artist before she prioritized beads and glass, … an important work from Scott’s Mammy/Nanny series, and Scott’s only extant work of monumental [multi-component] installations.” These acquisitions reflect the BMA’s commitment to assemble a significant repository of Scott’s works, building on existing holdings, including sculpture, textile, jewelry, and copious prints created at Goya Contemporary’s print atelier.
