SHANTI BHAVAN KIDS SHARE THEIR STORIES IN THE U.S.
|
This March two lucky 11th grade students, Ruby Joy Nagaraj and Rahul Balakrishnan, were sponsored by Tufaan Entertainment to come to Chicago for Tufaan 2015. Tufaan Entertainment is a student-run non-profit that hosts a collegiate South Asian dance competition at Northwestern University each year, where 10 dance teams from universities across the U.S. come to compete.
While in Chicago, Ruby and Rahul went on the NPR radio show Worldview, visited Navy Pier, danced, ate ice cream and more. They also had the opportunity to visit San Francisco where they toured Khan Academy and met the founder, Salman Khan. "Getting a global perspective allows them to be global citizens," explains Ajit George, Director of Operations for Shanti Bhavan. "The opportunity to visit other countries broadens their vision." Shanti Bhavan is thankful for the partnership with Tufaan Entertainment, and all of the proceeds from the dance competition are donated to the school.

SHANTI BHAVAN PROUDLY CELEBRATES ITS GRADUATING CHILDREN
|
Graduation celebrations at Shanti Bhavan campus for this year's high school and college graduates were an exciting weekend-long affair. Each day's events included sports competitions, fantastic entertainment performances by the children and ASTEP volunteers, workshops, and of course the graduation ceremony. One of the favorite moments was when the children transformed from salsa dancers to zombies as they performed a number from Broadway's West Side Story followed by a mash-up of Michael Jackson's Beat It and Thriller. Mr. Narindra Bachlaus, CEO of ExxonMobil India Ltd., gave the keynote address this year, expressing that even though the company is in the natural resource business, its most important resource is its people. This is why ExxonMobil chooses to partner with Shanti Bhavan Children's Project in its endeavors.
Our students have overcome tremendous challenges to grow into the extraordinary men and women they are today. They are now attending some of India's top universities in diverse fields such as Business, Political Science, Engineering, Biotechnology, Medicine, Computer Applications, and Sociology. We are extremely proud of our talented college graduates as well, and are excited to see their starting employment at companies such as Goldman Sachs, Tesco, Ernst & Young, JP Morgan, Mercedes Benz, and Thomson Reuters.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE |
We know that none of these accomplishments would have been possible without the generosity and support of our donors.
No matter how large or small, your contribution will make a difference. We have three classes of children in top colleges like Christ University, Mount Carmel, St. Josephs and Jyoti Nivas. Your support will ensure we are able to continue their high quality education, housing, clothing, food and medical care. The staff and children of Shanti Bhavan wish you a safe and happy summer vacation!
