Dear Families of  High School Students,

I am so excited to tell you about our  High School  Retreat to Lost Canyon! Yep, that's right: we are taking the whole High School to Lost Canyon this year! This is truly a significant opportunity to build a strong foundation for your student’s high school experience at North Phoenix Prep. Our annual retreat not only ignites your student’s social engagement with his or her peers, it also cultivates the trust required for the rigorous and collaborative work they will do in the classroom. A North Phoenix Prep education depends upon the development of an invested and united community of learners, so our goal is to have 100% participation. We want every high school student to experience this important opportunity to share a communal experience with their friends.

We will depart by bus on  Wednesday, August 14th  and will return on  Friday, August 16th , having bonded over team building activities, leadership exercises, an introduction to college counseling, s'mores and campfire stories (and sometimes sing-along's), hiking, games, and loads of new inside jokes. Students will receive an information packet on or before the first day of school with all the details that they will need for the retreat. The packet will include: daily schedule, packing list, group assignments, cabin assignments, camp map, and liability waivers. We will send home an electronic copy of this information as well.

Securing your student’s spot on the retreat is an easy, online process. Simply  submit your payment , and  complete a registration form . Because the staff at Lost Canyon need to make our arrangements in advance, we have a tiered registration schedule that incentivizes your prompt response:

EARLY Registration & Payment by June 15 = $150
Registration & Payment by July 1 = $175
Registration & Payment by August 1 = $200
LATE Registration & Payment after August 1st = $225

From the Dean, Ms. Sarah Schripsema:

Our student survey yielded a need to look again at our uniform guidelines to make them more comprehensible, easy to follow, and easy to enforce. In response, we held a student panel to hear the concerns from the student/family perspective. What follows are changes to the uniform for the 2019-2020 school year.

All students wear all-black dress or all black athletic shoes. A medical note is no longer needed for students who need to wear athletic shoes. Please make sure that there are no white markings of any kind on the shoe: that includes the sole, any brand markings, and laces. Socks should be solid black.

High school students may wear the white long or short sleeved Oxford, but it is not required. They can also purchase new black or burgundy polos from our vendors.
Middle school students may only wear the black or burgundy polos.

Any single, non-distracting color of nail polish is permissible, so long as it is consistent on all ten fingers. No designs, sparkles, neon colors, etc. The Dean of Students shall adjudicate any questionable choices, and the Dean’s decision shall be final.
