Dear OLG Families,
Summer is moving along surprisingly fast! I'm happy to announce we have completed our hiring for the year. It took a little patience and some prayer, but we have fabulous new staff coming on board! There will be more bios online and in fall Curriculum Nights, but here is a small recap of our fabulous new staff for this year:
- 5th Grade: Mr. Casey Loose hails from the New York area, loves hiking and outdoor adventures, and is really looking forward to joining our staff and meeting everyone at the August inservice.
- 6th Grade/MS Science: Ms. Sarah Nadalin comes to us from Eastside Catholic & St. Pius school and brings diverse camp and teaching experiences to really get the students into hands-on learning.
- PreK: Ms. Emily Mitchell, alum of OLG, will be joining Ms. Jeanine Morely in leading the PreK class. Ms. Emily has a true heart for OLG and the cherubs of our PreK class!
- PreSchool: Ms. Josefa Lindholm and Ms. Heidi Coy will be assisting Mrs. Brandy Tieskoetter teaching our youngest and newest Little Guads. Mrs. Brandy hails from St. Nicholas and St. Philomena and brings a compassionate and loving spirit and many amazing ideas to our new Preschool program.
Sal, Mrs. Janet, and I have also been busy this summer with the Early Learning Center renovation. Both classes are fully enrolled and last steps in the project are coming along nicely... feel free to peek through the fence if you haven't lately to see the new play area off 34th Ave and glance in the windows!
Check-out our
school calendar as we continue to move towards the first day of school. There is a change from initial March release that you should take note of...
K-8 Fall Conferences will be
Nov 7th-9th to line-up nicely with the Veterans Day holiday. Read on in this first newsletter of the 2018-19 school year for announcements on new events like
Art Walk (open studios next week!) and
Beer & Brats. Don't forget to look at the links for important school paperwork to be collected by
Aug 29th. Also we share a few pics from our summer camps offered earlier this summer!
Continue to have a safe and wonderful summer as we near our Aug 29th date. The office is still on summer/appointment hours until August 20th. We'll see you all real soon!

Halloween Beer & Brats - Saturday, October 20th
Halloween Carnival
- Saturday, October 27th
Exciting news on the Halloween Carnival front! While sadly there will again be no beer garden at this year's Carnival, parents will be able to buy tickets to a new Carnival pre-funk event, "Beers & Brats." On Saturday, Oct. 20, parent volunteers from the first-grade class will be grilling up dogs, pouring frothy brews, and welcoming both veteran parents and those brand new back to school for another great year at OLG. More details to come, but word is this Octoberfest-themed party will include polka music, mini-pumpkin carving, a cornhole tourney, and a not-so-quiet place to fill out those pesky Halloween Grams – and actually turn them in this year!

Lettuce Pray Is Back
Lettuce Pray has returned to OLG. If you’re a home gardener, here’s all you need to do to participate: On Sunday morning, step out into your garden and pick what’s fresh, bring it to church, and put it in the Lettuce Pray box in the narthex. If you don’t garden, you can also buy fresh produce and donate it. OLG volunteers come every Sunday during the growing season to pick up the produce and transfer it into cold storage at the West Seattle Food Bank. Thank you for sharing what comes from your heart, and your garden,

“Shipwrecked Rescued By Jesus” Was Truly A Blessing! Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all our 92 campers, our over 50 volunteers of crew leaders, station leaders and assistants, parents and guardians, parishioner’s who donated towards scholarships and supplies, and our prayer partners, who held our program in prayer for the entire week we were shipwrecked!
Throughout our week, we learned that Jesus rescues when we are lonely or worried, when we struggle, when we turn away from God and do wrong, and when we feel powerless!...From our youngest campers in our preschool, many shared, “Jesus loves me and that makes me special.”
Fr. Jack, in his sermon shared that we as parents, guardians, volunteers, and parishioners are seed planters, and truly, many seeds were planted during our Vacation Bible Camp week!
