This Month's Business Spotlight is on...Glam Studios Cape Cod

Owner is 27 year old Danielle Blake, an immigrant from Jamaica, who lived on Nantucket for a period of time before moving to the mainland (Cape Cod). Danielle’s love for beauty started at a young age, playing with make-up and loving the idea that she can make a person feel so special with the touch of her own art.

“I always knew I wanted to be a boss one day, so I incorporated both into a reality” she stated.  On the quest of pursuing her dreams of becoming  an entrepreneur, Danielle studied Business Administration at Cape Cod Community College, after which she obtained her degree. Nonetheless her passion landed her at Jupiter Beauty Academy in Boston, where she studied hair, skin and facial techniques. Ms Blake didn’t stop there, in addition to all she had obtained, she also achieved her lash certification as well, which made her a well versatile, all rounded beauty queen. Glam Studio’s Cape Cod officially started in 2018 out of an extra room in her house where clients came to get their lash  services. With the growth, Danielle was able to rent her first commercial space as a licensed esthetician/ entrepreneur. As business grew over the years so has Glam Studios Cape Cod locations. Spoken like the true business woman she is, Danielle explained that while she worked on her business, she still had a 9-5 as well. Which helped her to fund her dream from the ground up.

Glam Studios Cape Cod offers a number of services to enhance one's beauty, from lash extensions, make-up services, facials, teeth whitening and gems, waxing, to her own skin care line called, “ La Bella Skincare”. As the business woman she is today, Danielle has also started an initiative for women in business, who are looking for support and a way to promote their brand/business called Support Her Brand or SHB. And she also offers one on one lash extension classes.

Danielle explained that when she started her business she registered as a Sole Proprietor. When she opened her business officially, where she had employees, she then switched to an S-corp. Unfortunately Glam Studios Cape Cod was not loan funded but was funded by a young woman who had a dream and the driven desire to succeed.  Danielle explained that there were many bumps in the road and many lessons to learn as a young business owner. Even though she had struggles, nothing deferred her from her dream, and only strengthened her reasons to push harder because she believes in leaving a legacy for today’s young girls to follow and look up to.

Glam Studios Cape Cod 5 year plan is to have and teach her craft to someone that has the same drive and passion that she has to run her business when she is not present. The goal right now is not quantity but quality and making sure that the same love, sweat and devotion she puts into her business can be implemented by employees.

Opportunities with Barnstable County

There are untapped opportunities with Barnstable County and we want to make sure Amplify businesses have all the info. We're sharing with you the process to become a vendor/supplier/contractor with Barnstable County who wants to support POC owned businesses.

First step is to get "certified". The supplier diversity office's mission is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in state contracting for businesses owned by minorities, women, Portuguese, veterans, service-disabled veterans, those with a disability, and LGBT individuals, as well as small Massachusetts businesses. The SDO certifies these businesses and manages several programs that help them enhance their marketability when bidding on public contracts.

Supplier Diversity Office Certification

Once that is completed, the next step is to get on a state contract through the Operations Services Division, using the link below. When looking for diverse suppliers this is usually where the county starts.

June Boss Talk Recap

Our June Boss Talk was hosted by Keah Perry, owner of Create a Splash, where

Splash painting is a fun and unique experience for kids and adults to paint on canvas and on everywhere else! Chef Anthony of Refined by AB wowed our taste buds with his delicious eats - be sure to check out his offering of seasonings. We had an amazing

time hearing about both of their journeys in entrepreneurship, networking with

fellow BOSSES, and splash painting! Thank you to everyone who continues to

support and come BOSS TALK with us!

We're talking the busy summer off from these business networking events, but we can't wait to see you in September for our next BOSS TALK!

Thank you to the Cape Cod Commission for inviting Amplify CEO, Tara Vargas Wallace, to speak at the One Cape Summit last week on the "Small Scale, Big Impact; Supporting the Local Economy" panel about her work with Amplify POC, Inc. and the importance of racial equity and economic justice on our local economy.

The One Cape Summit is an annual conference put on by the Cape Cod Commission for those in decision making positions to learn, collaborate, and innovate with local

and national leaders, practitioners, and subject matter experts in sessions

designed to inspire action on the most pressing challenges facing Cape Cod’s

unique environment and economy.
