Message from the Directors
We are proud to have hosted our Annual PARC Neuromodulation Symposium on April 26, 2025. Featuring presentations from nationally recognized clinicians and scientists, this event showcased the excellence and dedication of our PARC community at UCSF. The symposium also provided an invaluable forum for sharing insights and fostering collaboration among researchers, scientists, and clinicians. PARC aims to highlight the importance of cross-disciplinary interaction in advancing our understanding and treatment of pain and addiction. Watch any presentations you missed at the link above and see photos from the event below!
Keep your eyes out for the release of the PARC strategic plan later this year and read on for important updates from PARC.

Meet the 2025-2026
PARC Fellow
PARC is pleased to share that UCSF faculty member Leslie Suen, MD, MAS, of the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, has been selected as the PARC Fellow of 2025-2026.
Dr. Suen’s research project is entitled, “Buprenorphine Injection for Safety Net Treatment of Pain and addiction (B-INSTEP).” B-INSTEP seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of direct-to-inject long-acting injectable (LAI) buprenorphine for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), comparing treatment outcomes between those with and without chronic pain. Leveraging electronic health records across San Francisco Department of Public Health and Highland Hospital in Alameda County, Dr. Suen and research team members Drs. Sarah Rosenwohl-Mack, Alexander Bazazi, and Phillip Coffin will assess buprenorphine retention, non-prescribed opioid use, and changes in pain outcomes over time.
Congratulations to this year’s PARC awardee, and head to our website to see past fellowship awardees and their projects.
