Change Your World One Heart Action at a Time

by Jean Wible

As we move into summer, the time of fire, heart, blood, digestion and joy/enthusiasm, many of

us are honestly struggling with apathy, fatigue, and stress. The world feels like it is spinning too

fast for us to keep up. One thing after another in the world, this country and in our individual

lives have us feeling like we don’t have the energy to move into this more active time or take

advantage of the joys of life.

The good news is that the fire/heart energies of this season are some of the strongest that we

can tap into. The heart has the strongest energy field of any of our organs, extending well out

from our bodies. A change in the heart energy can happen in seconds and always immediately

effects our entire body’s energy and even our internal neurochemicals. Think how quickly your

entire mood can change when you see something that makes you smile, or someone you love.

For example, you see your grandchild, your heart energy opens with love in an instant, you

smile, and immediately your mood lifts, stress eases and muscles relax. This is automatic. We

can however, use this power of heart energy consciously to aid our everyday lives. It can help

us stay grounded, connected and energized when we do little things every day to open our

heart energy.

1. Start your day by opening the window, listening to the joy of the birdsong and holding

love in your heart for someone you will see that day.

2. Smile at one stranger each day.

3. Hug someone for at least 20 seconds. This length of time for a hug allows for deeper

connection and raises oxytocin (the love connection hormone seen often when new

mothers hold their babies).

4. If you are able, find some type of volunteer work you can do through your church or

other charity organizations. Weekly, monthly etc. It does not have to be very time-

consuming. The link below allows you to make a phone call to an isolated senior in your

community to help them feel less lonely.

5. Taking a moment at the end of the day, either in your heart or actually journalling, to

review what you are grateful for and who you are grateful for is always invaluable.

At any time of the day, you can always focus on opening your heart to love and literally change

your mood and body chemistry in seconds. Make it a daily practice! It is the fire of love that will

change your world and our world one person at a time!

Meeting your Nutritional Goals

and Getting Heart Healthy

by Jenny

As the weather is warming up, and the summer is fast-approaching, we are moving into

a Fire phase that is associated with the emotion of joy and the color red.

To me, the heart is always associated with roses and I wanted to share a couple of

recipes with you that I, personally enjoy as summer-time treats to cool me down from

the heat. I hope you will try these and enjoy them just as much!

Crimson Refresher:

For this easy recipe, you will need several (2-6) buds of hibiscus, also known as

jamaica (in Latin and South America) or sorrel (in the Caribbean). They are sold as

dried flower buds in most Latin and international stores as well as some mega-stores

like Walmart.

Add them to 1L of boiling water and allow to cool. If you have the time,

take notice of the almost-magical transformation of the water into a beautiful, deeply-

colored red infusion as waves of crimson seep from the flower buds into the water. Add

a few spoons of rose preserves to the infusion. Rose preserves is essentially a jam or

jelly made from rose petals and is popular in some Mediterranean

regions and can be found in Turkish and Eastern European food stores. Hibiscus adds a tart and bright flavor, while the rose preserves add sweetness and fragrance to this very refreshing and beautiful beverage.

If you prefer to omit the preserve, just use any sweetener of your choice, for example,

maple syrup. You can also add dried rose buds or dried rose petals (available in tea

shops and natural food stores) along with the hibiscus.

Taste and adjust as needed. If you want more tartness, add more hibiscus, it will infuse

even in cold water, it just will take longer. If the refresher is too sour, dilute with water

and/or add more preserves/sweetener.

Serve cold (or at any temperature you prefer), in a clear glass to enjoy the beautiful

color and the refreshing flavor!

Rose Jello:

Make a rose infusion by steeping 4 Tbsp of dried rose buds and/or petals in 1L of

boiling water. You may also use 4 rose tea bags instead.

Add a sweetener, rose preserves, maple syrup, monk fruit, or whichever one you prefer,

to taste. Food and beverages always taste sweeter when they are hot, so make sure to

add a little more than you need, to adjust for serving this dessert cold. Combine with

unflavored jello, per manufacturer's instructions, and refrigerate, until the jello is set.

Enjoy as a yummy summer treat!

Rose, as an herb has a very soothing effect on the nervous system and could promote

better sleep and improved digestion. Hibiscus is an herb historically used to support

memory and lower blood pressure.
