Class of 2026 Graduation

This June, we celebrated our six graduating seniors and seven promoting eighth-graders. Observing our annual tradition, we read a passage from our selected graduation book of the year, After the Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again by Dan Santat, which recounts the lessons Humpty learned after he fell off the wall. Humpty muses that “Hopefully, you’ll remember me as the egg who got back up…and learned how to fly.”

Just as we have seen our graduates experience “falls” in life, we have seen them get back up and learn from their falls so they can succeed. We wish all our graduates the best of luck as they move on to new endeavors.

Play ball! Throughout the year, our students enjoyed special field trips to reward their progress and monthly recreation center trips to give them a unique, community-based space with outdoor walking paths and opportunities to play a variety of sports like basketball and soccer. This summer, we capped off the year with a spirited student-staff basketball game at the recreation center and a positive behavior incentive social field trip to the bowling alley. These trips are not possible without the investment of our school partners and grant funders who believe in the power of school incentives and community-based learning.

For Extended School Year 2026, The Foundation School of Montgomery County themed all summer activities around a classic pastime: camping! Our students practiced teamwork by setting up a tent, tie-dyed shirts to make team gear, and made s’mores around a fire pit. All the while, they worked hard to grow their classroom and social-emotional skills, and our high school students diligently earned credits toward graduation. It was a fun-filled summer session, and we can’t wait to welcome them back in the fall.

Ms. Amita Gandhi served as a long-term substitute for our middle school English and Social Studies classes this last school year. She stepped up and grew as a teacher in many ways and has proven herself to be a dedicated advocate for her students. She is always willing to learn, is open to feedback, and has become a very dependable staff member. 

Ms. Jamilla Baskerville is a dedicated program assistant working in our specialized program for high school students with intellectual disabilities. She has taken a lead role in developing our transition studio, where these students can learn independent living skills they need to be successful adults. She is willing to take on anything that we ask of her and has adapted her interventions with students to meet the needs of this unique population.
