Letter from the Director

Warm Summer greetings RSVP Friends!

“Summertime, and the livin' is easy," the popular George Gershwin song goes. Let's face it, summertime brings with it not only warm weather, but a sense of adventure and possibility, visits with family and friends, picnic dinners in the back yard, eating ice cream, and travels. I am sure that many of you are excited about being outside soaking up vitamin D with outdoor projects like tending to your garden, watching the sunrise and set from your porch, and more – this summer will still be one for the books!

We hope you enjoy the read and all our news.  Please feel free to share our newsletter and, especially, the stories of your volunteer experiences with others on your social networks!

Most sincerely,

Mary Carey Seavey, Director

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

June 22, 2022

On a hazy Wednesday in June at the White Mountain Hotel & Resort, over 120 of our over 400 volunteers were thanked for their dedicated service to their communities. A lovely luncheon, followed by an awards ceremony was enjoyed by all. Each volunteer that attended was one that selflessly gave their time, great or small, to help those in need. This luncheon is only a small gesture made by the staff and board of RSVP to thank our volunteers for being the kindest volunteers any organization could ask for. Thank you to all of our volunteers! We wouldn't be RSVP without you!

Meet the Advisory Board

John Colbath - Board Chair

John joined RSVP as a volunteer in September of 2016 and has served as the Chair of the RSVP Advisory Council since 2017. As the Chair, John oversees council members who are charted with advising, assisting, and advocating for effective project operations of Carroll County RSVP. Through his leadership, the Council supports constructive changes within the program, generates new ideas, and serves as an ambassador to the wider Carroll County Community. John has always been the biggest supporter of Carroll County RSVP and its essential programs and is always one of the first people to show up to any event and offer support when needed.

John has always served his community throughout his entire adult life and continues to do so today. He was the first Board Chairman of the Children’s Health Center, now known as the White Mountain Community Health Center, and served on the Visiting Nurse Service of Northern Carroll County Board of Directors, American Cancer Society North Carroll County Board of Directors, Memorial Development Foundation Board of Directors, and Vaughan Community Health Center. John has served the State of New Hampshire on the New Hampshire Council of Nurse Educators, New Hampshire Nurse’s Foundation, and New Hampshire Center for Nursing Workforce Board of Directors. John is also a long-term member of the Mt. Washington Economic Council and currently serves on the Art Jubilee Board and Vaughn Community Services Board Chairman.

John continues to serve the Town of Conway as Chairman of the Conway Zoning Board of Appeal, Conway Board of Selectmen, and Selectmen’s Representative on the Conway Municipal Budget Committee.

Marshall Allan - Board Vice-Chair

Marshall joined RSVP as a volunteer in September of 2015 and has served diligently on the RSVP Advisory Council since 2016. Marshall has served as Vice-President of the RSVP Advisory Council for over three years and has been the head of the fundraising committee for just as long. As an Advisory Council member, Marshall represents the interests of our volunteers, volunteer stations, and the community at large. He advises, assists, and advocates for the effective project operation of Carroll County RSVP. Marshall supports constructive changes within the program, generates new ideas, works diligently on fundraising activities, and serves as an ambassador to the wider Carroll County community.

As an RSVP volunteer, Marshall is one of our biggest champions for the non-emergency medical transportation program, taking at-risk community members to essential medical appointments locally and long-distance. He typically is our first call when we cannot find a driver to take a client long distance and will frequently drive to places like Dartmouth-Hitchcock of Lebanon, The VA Hospital of Manchester, Mass General of Boston, and Maine Medical Center of Portland. He provides quality care and service during these trips and feels much fulfillment and joy by doing so. In the past, Marshall spent many years mentoring and training athletes of the Special Olympics, volunteering at special needs summer camps and local theatre groups, and working for the Center of Hope as a caregiver.

Currently, Marshall spends his time volunteering in many ways at RSVP, working summers for the town of Conway and enjoying sunny days on the river with a good book.

Volunteers Needed!

Carroll County RSVP is looking for non-emergency medical volunteer drivers! RSVP is looking for outgoing and kind individuals to transport seniors, veterans, and those with disabilities to essential medical appointments across Carroll County. This volunteer opportunity has the most flexible time commitment and schedule because it is based on the individual’s availability. Whether it’s volunteering a few hours once a week or a few hours a day, the volunteer gets to decide when and where they are willing to transport. Mileage reimbursement can be provided on a monthly basis to compensate for the cost of gas and a supplemental insurance is also provided. All clients are ambulatory and greatly appreciate the efforts that are made by the volunteer to transport them and provide companionship.

The Mount Washington Valley Adult Day Center is looking for volunteers to engage with their day residents on a very flexible schedule. The right volunteer for them would be someone that has some free time during the weekday to engage in various hobbies and activities such as: Playing board games and cards, puzzles, storytelling, playing music, walking, knitting and other hobbies.

The time engagement is very flexible to the volunteer, and volunteer engagement ranges from an hour or so a day to a few hours a week. The day residents truly enjoy spending time with new people and human interaction helps enrich their daily lives.

Valley Vision is a non-profit   501(c)(3) production company that produces Public, Educational, and Government (PEG) television programming for Conway, Albany, Bartlett, and Fryeburg on channels 3 and 1301.

The station is in need of curious individuals that would like to dive into the world of public access television and videography. Valley Vision is looking for volunteers with varying degrees of experience to learn how to film and edit a show and even gain the confidence to produce a show of their own! Time commitment is very flexible and the station will provide all of the necessary equipment and training.

Thank You to Our Grant Sponsors

Carroll County RSVP would not be successful without the generous contributions of various granting agencies. Grants not only support our special programs and the general operation of our organization, but they also impact the lives of the individuals we serve - the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.

Thank you to everyone that contributes to the continuation of our essential programs throughout Carroll County!
