COVID-19 COMMUNITY SUPPORT

We are grateful and honored to be in a situation that allows us to continue serving our community during this challenging time thanks to our generous community.

For the past 19 weeks we've been providing grocery store gift cards, rental and other monthly expense assistance, delivering weekly food boxes and meals and connecting families to community resources.

Thank you to our supporters, volunteers and front-line team for making this all possible!
Recover. Reengage. Reimagine.
As we look to the beginning of the new school year, students, schools and communities will be facing a myriad of challenges to ensure learning and student supports continue.

As a CIS network we must adapt and evolve to meet these challenges, which we will do in 3 phases.

  • Phase 1, Re-cover: Build our capacity to support the increased recovery needs of students and families.

  • Phase 2, Re-engage: Create a toolkit for our school-based team to support the increased social-emotional needs of students.

  • Phase 3, Re-imagine: Re-imagine the content of what the school experience looks like and innovating our approach to continue supporting students who need us most.

We look forward to keeping you updated on this evolution.

In Schools and Beyond

Strategies, Culture, and Behavior
Communities In Schools believes that trans-formative relationships are the key to unlocking a student’s potential. We will succeed by including in our strategies, ingraining in our culture, and reflecting in our behaviors, principles and practices of diversity, equity and inclusion. As a result, we break down immediate and systemic barriers to create and sustain equitable outcomes.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) must lead everything we do. Our mission cannot be achieved without it, therefore we are dedicated to a steady journey of constant learning which consists of openness, discovery, and intentionality.

Over the past year, this journey includes implementing the following:
  • Our commitment to recruiting a diverse team led to updating our job descriptions and hiring process with a DEI focus.
  • Created a DEI webpage, which includes anti-racism resources.
  • Added language to our partner MOU's highlighting a shared commitment to eliminating all forms of discrimination and responding quickly to racist and other discriminating incidents.

This fall we will be bringing in a consultant to conduct an organization-wide DEI assessment and developing further action steps to guide our DEI journey.

If you have ideas or feedback, we would love to hear from you.
