Annual Fishing Derby


Bring your bait, bucket and fishing pole and test your angling skills at the Annual Fishing Derby April 22 at Van Horn Woods East. The derby is divided into three age divisions: 3-5, 6-8 and 9-13. Awards are given for the longest fish in each age division. Participants are also entered into a raffle when they sign in (winners must be present). All children must be accompanied by an adult. Event takes place rain or shine. Please dress appropriately. Cost is $8/$10 for residents/non-residents.

Arbor Day Tree Giveaway


In celebration of Arbor Day, the Plainfield Park District is giving away approximately 300 trees (White Oak, Sweet Gum, American Beech) between noon and 3 p.m., April 28 in the parking lot of the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center, 24550 W. Renwick Road in Plainfield. The giveaway will occur in the north parking lot. Up to two saplings are allowed per person.

Mother's Day Paint & Tea


Give Mom the gift of quality time with you for Mother's Day at the Mother's Day Tea & Paint event 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., May 6 at Plainfield Township Community Center. Every participant registered receives a canvas to paint on. An instructor guides participants step-by-step through a featured painting. Refreshments are provided. Cost is $12/$15 for residents/non-residents.

April 22 is World Earth Day! From preserving open space and trees to responding to climate change, the field of parks and recreation is essential to resilient communities. Did you know:

Early Bird Passes to Ottawa Street Pool


Season passes are now on sale! Ottawa Street Pool passholders receive early admittance and Passholder Appreciation Day. Passes are $40/$50 for residents/non-residents now through May 26. Prices increases to $55/$65 May 27. Passes must be purchased in person.

Great Adventures Preschool Information


Registration applications for the 2023-24 school year are now being accepted at the Great Adventures preschool office located inside the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center at 24550 W. NEW! Summer Basketball League


New this summer! The Plainfield Park District is hosting boys and girls basketball leagues for grades 1-4. League emphasizes proper techniques, knowledge of the rules, team strategy, participation and fun. Practices start the week of June 12, with games beginning the weekend of June 24. Enrollment is limited, so register early.

Gary Kantor Magic Class


Participants learn tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading and more at Gary Kantor's Magic Class, set for 6:45 to 7:40 p.m., April 27. Tricks are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided, and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children ages 5-12 are grouped by age and learn tricks that are age appropriate.
