Moodus Noises Weekend A Smashing Success!

Thank you to everyone who attended Moodus Noises Weekend! The Opening Reception on Friday, May 30th was a high-energy event with more than 60 people enjoying new exhibits and ushering in our 2025 summer season. Dr. Ellen Thomas described how the Museum acquired 2 seismometers from Yale University - one at Cave Hill and one at the Museum. Attendees watched the seismometer in action in real-time and viewed the new "Mysterious Moodus Noises" exhibit.

On Sunday, June 1st, Alison Guinness provided an in-depth presentation to 125 people about the "Moodus Noises: Stories & Science." The audience learned about the beliefs of the Indigenous peoples and the colonial settlers, the early theories of the Noises, and the scientific understanding of the Moodus earthquakes as we know it today. The presentation was fascinating and informative!

150 Years of Wedding Gowns!

You are in for a treat! We have beautiful wedding gowns on display that range from 1852 to the 1990s. You can view the exquisite handiwork and changing styles over the years. The dress in this photo was worn by a bride that was jilted at the altar in 1892. This new exhibit will be on display for the full summer season. On Sunday, August 17th at 2:00 PM, our textile expert, Dena Leidke, will talk about these amazing gowns.

The Museum is open Thursdays and Sundays from 12 - 4, June through October. There's so much to see! We guarantee you will be amazed at the unique history of the people and places of East Haddam on view at the Museum!
