Interview with Student at Extended School Year (ESY) program and Camp Koo
Catelyna attends the Extended School Year program in the mornings and Camp Kooskooskoos in the afternoon. She has attended ESY (referred to as summer camp in this interview)for 9 days and Camp K for 4 days due to staggered start dates. A bus transfers her from ESY at Benjamin Franklin to Camp K at Hawthorne
This is what she had to say about her experience:
Which do you like the best? Summer School or Camp K?
I like Camp K the best. I love Camp K.
Why?
Because we get to go to the park, the pool and sprinklers. And my best friend Sarah goes to Camp K.
What else do you do?
I really like the Arts class with Ms. Miller and I like Dance class. Today we made up dances when we listened to our favorite music. I started clapping and we made up a dance with clapping.
In art we are doing a project where we stuff empty plastic water bottles with thin colored paper. The whole camp has to participate. We stick the bottles in the fence and the bottom of the bottle faces out. We will spell Camp K with the bottles. It took the teacher four months to collect all the bottles.
What about summer school? What do you like best about that?
I like the playtime for 30 minutes.
What else do you do?
We study everything like science, social studies, word studies and writing…you name it.
Do you like your teacher?
Yes. She’s cool.
Is the work easy or hard?
So far it is easy.
Catelyna is excited to go to summer school and camp every day. After a long time without seeing other kids, she is in heaven.
