Recreational Programming News: Summer 2017 Edition
The City of Sandy Springs offers year-round sport and leisure programs for residents of all ages. Let spring and summer’s longer days and warmer temperatures inspire you and your family to get active right here in Sandy Springs. This seasonal newsletter will share programming highlights from the City’s Recreation and Parks Department. We hope to see you soon!
Summer Events
Fulton Golden Games
For more than 20 years, The Fulton Golden Games has helped mature adults stay physically active and socially engaged. The annual event will take place April 26-May31 and attracts more than 500 adults age 50 years and older, who participate in athletic and recreational events including hiking, running, bowling, and much more. Meals are provided at most of the events, and an awards luncheon is featured at the end of the month, with medals and prizes.

National Kids to Parks Day
For the past seven years, Sandy Springs has participated in the National Park Trust's, National Kids to Park Day, a nation-wide initiative designed to celebrate local parks. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. at Hammond Park. Activities for all ages will be provided by the City of Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Department and include: obstacle course challenges, water slides, inflatables, face painting, balloon artist, raffles, DJ music, and much more. Admission is free. The National Park Trust encourages children to venture outside and explore their local parks, while discovering nature and history.
Canoe, Kayak and Paddleboard the Hooch
It’s time to play in the river! The Chattahoochee River runs along 22 miles of Sandy Springs and it’s quite a fun neighbor to get to know. For those wanting to learn more, Canoe, Kayak and Paddleboard Intro Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Overlook Park. This is a free event for ages 10 and up. For the more competitive set, the 6th Annual Standup Paddleboard Race is scheduled for Sunday, June 25 from 8 a.m. to noon at Overlook Park. The fee for this event is $55/$65/kids are free.

Gymnastics Team Tryout
Gymnastics Team Tryouts provides the opportunity for your gymnast to show us her current gymnastics skill level and for the team coaches to evaluate and place her in the best spot based upon her strength, flexibility and gymnastics skills. We have openings in both our Pre-Team and Competitive Team and we highly encourage any interested gymnast to come out and show us what they've got!!! Team Tryouts are held May 6, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. at the Sandy Springs Gymnastics Center at Hammond Park.

Sandy Springs Tennis Week
Chances are you’ve driven past Sandy Springs Tennis Center more times than you can count, but have you set foot on one of the center’s 24 lighted courts?! Sandy Springs Tennis Center wants to get to know you and that’s why they’ve created a Sandy Springs Tennis Week. During the week of May 8-14, the center will host a variety of complimentary events and use of the tennis center.
