In this week’s issue, we outline the transformative difference YOU have helped create for patients, families, and healthcare professionals through one of Golf Fights Cancer's most impactful Priorities of Giving, Patient & Family Support - Financial Relief.

With the commitment and generosity of our community, GFC has played a significant role in reducing financial barriers for cancer patients of all ages, positively impacting  awareness, treatment access, and overall health outcomes.

Thank you for continuing on this inspirational journey showcasing the tremendous power of our community!

Patient & Family Support - Financial Relief

Following a diagnosis, many cancer patients and families face a dramatic decline in income, as household members must stop working or reduce hours to care for themselves or a loved one. Even with health coverage, patients can struggle to meet high treatment costs while affording basic household expenses. They are left to make unimaginable decisions: Do they fill a prescription and drive to an appointment, or do they pay their mortgage and put food on table?

Since 2004, Golf Fights Cancer has provided over $700,000 in financial relief to ensure that no family is forced to make a decision between treatment or their basic needs. These funds were used to help pay for everyday expenses including rent, mortgage, utilities, transportation, and food.

"The past two years have been extraordinary by any measure, but we persevered, and we are proud of the work the Jay Fund has been able to accomplish. In 2021, we saw a 21% increase in requests for financial assistance, with housing and food support representing the highest needs. Because of Golf Fight Cancer’s generosity, we continued to never turn away a family that needed our help.”

Glenn Kelly

Simply put, Glenn Kelly is a humble hero! His charismatic charm immediately puts others at ease, and his frequent sharing of a funny movie quote or an uplifting Irish hymn brings a smile and a laugh to all who know him.

For over fifteen years, Glenn continues to be a one-man crusade for GFC. As the club professional at Woods Hole Golf Club in Falmouth MA, Glenn undertakes GFC’s Golf Marathon in celebration of, and as tribute to, his many family members and friends who have been touched by cancer. Glenn has single-handedly raised more than $200,000 in the fight against cancer, removing critical gaps in resources for hundreds of patients and families. As important, he serves as an ambassador of Golf Fights Cancer, celebrating the philanthropic power of the golf community.

"Glenn represents the very best of the spirit of GFC," shares Golf Fights Cancer's co-founder and chairman, Brian Oates. "He has an incredible heart and has been an amazing part of our community. We are excited to have Glenn back at this year’s marathon and welcome his brother, Brian, to the event for the first time. If there is anything better than one Kelly, it’s two!”
