Summer Volunteer Roles Change Lives Daily

Serve Neighbors Through Meaningful Experiences

Now that school is out, summer is the perfect time to make a meaningful difference through volunteering at LUM. Two great examples of the unique and meaningful opportunities available to you and your friends are LUM Camp and the LUM Financial Assistance Program. One is an intensive week-long experience offered only once each year; the other provides ongoing weekly engagement. Both create direct, personal connections with neighbors in need and offer the chance to make a lasting impact.

Be an Advocate

LUM is currently seeking Volunteer Advocates for the Financial Assistance Program. Volunteers serve one weekday morning each week, helping individuals and families facing urgent needs such as housing, utilities, and medications. Training is provided, and your time can make a real difference.

Be a Counselor

LUM is also recruiting Volunteer Counselors for LUM Camp, held July 27–31 at Jameson Camp in Indianapolis. Counselors guide and encourage children ages 8–10 through a week of activities designed to build confidence, self-esteem, and lifelong memories.

To explore all volunteer opportunities at LUM, visit LUM Volunteer Opportunities or call or email LUM (765-423-2691 | volunteer@LUMserve.org).

Behind the Scenes Changes Perspectives

Experience Shelter Hospitality, Dignity, Resilience

Recently, LUM hosted two powerful Behind the Scenes experiences at the LUM Emergency Shelter. A select group of donors, volunteers, and community friends stepped into the role of a shelter guest, following the process from check-in to chores and daily routines (pictured).

Guided by LUM staff, participants gained a deeper understanding of shelter operations and heard moving video testimonials from shelter guests. The experience offered an honest and inspiring look at both the challenges of homelessness and the resilience of those hosted by LUM.

Additional Behind the Scenes experiences are planned for September. More information will be shared in the coming months, but you may sign up today.

Leave a Legacy & Plant Seeds of Support

Planned Giving Supports Neighbors Years to Come

As seasons turn and new growth emerges, so too can your lasting impact on the community. A planned gift to Lafayette Urban Ministry — such as a bequest in your will or living trust—offers a meaningful way to plant seeds of support that continue to grow for years to come.

Your legacy can do more than reflect your values; it can help create a lifeline of help & hope for your neighbors across Greater Lafayette in every season of life. Each gift becomes a source of empowerment, dignity, and stability for those who need it most.

To explore planned giving options, check out the LUM Legacy Giving Guide or call or email Steve Mogensen (765-423-2691 or smogensen@LUMserve.org.)
