Faces of Faith this week: the daughters of Zelophehad

Zelophehad has five daughters and no sons. Who will possess his inheritance when he dies in the wilderness? The law that has been given to Moses by God is clear— it cannot be given to daughters. What will happen when the daughters come to Moses to request it anyway? Faithful questions change things—even the law. What are your faithful questions?

Mighty God, You heard the request of Zelophehad’s daughters and entrusted an inheritance to their care. You have entrusted us with much, help us to live in response to these gifts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
Is it OK to ask questions about my faith?
Questions are how we grow!  Jesus was a master of rabbinic debate, using questions to help people to see and grow in their understanding of how God worked in the world. The Word came alive in the debate, in the boundaries being pushed or in Jesus' case, the boundaries being destroyed. Our reading from Numbers this week shows us this is nothing new. Five women ask a question. Moses takes it to the Lord and the Lord changes the law. This should empower us to ask more questions and then buckle up as we follow Jesus into the answers.
SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
Generous Life in Christ - Mission Impact Teams - Summer 2021

We'll be kicking off our Mission Impact Teams at a meeting on Tuesday, June 8 at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. It will also be livestreamed on YouTube. You will learn how this idea grew, what the steps are and how you can be a part! Questions? Contact Pastor Trudy
Northern Illinois Food Bank
What you do matters!
A special shout-out to Cindy Yeo! In April, Northern Illinois Food Bank congratulated her on completing 500 volunteer hours! We are inspired!

On Tuesday, a group of 14 GLCers labeled and packed 3,416 lbs. of canned corn, which will provide 2,846 meals for our hungry neighbors in 13 northern Illinois counties.

Looks like the group had fun and got a little silly while spending 2.25 hours attaching labels on cans of corn. Lots and lots of labels! #generouslifeinChrist

Come join the fun!
Next packing event: Wed., July 7 @ 9 am
We need you!
Expanded serving opportunities at St. Andrew Lutheran Church
We're looking for volunteers to help with the work GLC is doing weekly on Fridays at St. Andrew Lutheran Church to help make their Saturday food distributions swift and efficient.

We are so happy to be able to invite more into this work group!  All ages— 5th grade and older— are welcome to sign up. Note: be prepared to work hard as it is often not known what additional work must be done each Friday!  Our first work event is scheduled for June 4.

Masks are required; gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided. New volunteers may sign up for lead slots after they are trained their first 'worker' day.

For more information and to sign up, visit our SignUpGenius page or email Julie with questions.
