We have different needs for Skin Care in summer time. This article will focus on the different skin types - their different needs in summer - and a simple 3 step routine for this warmer weather.
The kinds of products we apply to our skin in warmer weather, can often be very different than what we apply during colder weather (fall and winter)
During spring and summer the air is warmer which makes oil production increase for most people. For those with Dry Skin this can be a bonus, because they may find their skin is now "normal" or less dry than before. Though some select Dry Skin stays Dry and becomes even drier. For Oily Skin this can really cause the skin to get even oilier. For Acne Prone skin this can equal more acne than before. For Sensitive/Rosacea prone skin it can become more inflamed due to the heat.
Skin Care Routines
Oily/Acne Prone Skin
This type of skin needs a good cleanser that will take off oil and makeup, but without disturbing the barrier or stripping the skin of its oils. If a cleanser strips this type of skin too much, it can pump out more oil in order to compensate. More oil on top of already oily skin in summer can = more acne. Not fun!
3 Step Routine for Oily Skin

Dehydrated/Acne Prone Skin
This type of skin needs a cleanser that will not strip the skin (causing it to be more dehydrated) but one that is still useful to acne prone skin. Dehydrated Skin is often a result of cleansers that are stripping, and excessive use of acids and or/exfoliation. Chlorinated water (water that isn’t filtered) and environmental factors can also contribute. During summer it can often become more acne prone due to the oil breakthrough.

Rosacea/Sensitive Prone Skin
Rosacea Prone Skin can be dehydrated, dry or oily though generally I suggest the same kind of routine. Rosacea is often caused from the same things mentioned above - strong acids, exfoliation and stripping Cleansers. Rosacea prone skin that is also acne prone, can also find that moisturizers/creams can cause issues (including clogging and cystic acne) but also it seals heat into the skin so they can find that this makes rosacea and inflammation worse. In fact I do not suggest using any of these, while healing your skin from Rosacea. Chlorinated water (water that isn’t filtered) and environmental factors can also contribute. Summer heat can cause further inflammation so we want to focus on getting the inflammation down and not contributing to it.
3 Step Routine for Dehydrated/Acne Prone Skin
If you don't wear makeup your best choices for cleansing may be:
Dry and or Dry/Aging (NOT acne prone)
For this skin type - Summer can often cause even more dehydration. Occasionally Dry skin will find their skin gets oilier, which can be a nice reprieve from winter. Cleansing Oils or Cream Cleansers are your best bet if your skin is exclusively dry. Dry skin should always avoid surfactant/soap type cleansers, excessive acids and excessive exfoliation. (this can only contribute to the issue)
