Summer Special
For those who tend our neighborhood – looking out for the wellbeing of Dupont people, pets, and plants -- a bouquet of perfect July days to enjoy for as long as they last. Water well including any young street trees you may happen to have in your treebox. Gardeners please note – we meet regularly each Saturday morning at 9 am at T Street Park for light weeding, targeted watering, and diversified chitchat.
July is a favorite month of mine in DC because many people go away (you know who I mean). Traffic lightens up, outdoor cafes flourish, DCCA does not have business meetings again until October,
house tour planning is in high gear.
Here are some updates and events you may like.

Update:
Dukes Grocery Application for Extended Hours of Outdoor Cafe
|
On Wednesday, DCCA appeared before the ABC board in protest of a substantial change application by Duke’s Grocery for extended outdoor cafe hours on public space. Duke’s is a much-liked and responsible business but any increase in hours for Duke’s sidewalk cafe would have to be granted to others who might reasonably request same. Since the ANC’s adoption of standard closing hours for outdoor cafes (11pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends), peace has prevailed on a street with a history of contentiousness. Residents who find the noise excessive now endure it without resorting to enforcement because they know it will reliably die down at the agreed-to hour. Our thanks and appreciation to 17th Street businesses who have abided by the compromise for more than 20 years. A decision is expected within 90 days.

Get Your Trash Out Early: With the summer heat in mind, trash and recycling crews from the Department of Public Works (DPW) are starting their daily collections routes one hour earlier – 6:00 a.m. You can put your items out starting at 6:30 p.m. the day before your collections are made.
.
Water street trees, please. Make sure the tree in your treebox gets watered every week.
That would be one full serving of a green watering bag. Summer is the time of year young trees die. If you see a tree not being cared for and your hose doesn't reach, let us know.
