Visitors to the farm frequently ask us about the little yellow chair in the kangaroo yard. Why is it there? Do the kangaroos sit on it? No. But they love it when Farmer Blake does. This photo shows Blake giving a good brushing to Roodolph, who repays the favor with hugs.

Blake is the Dr. Doolittle of the Hansen Dairy farm. He's responsible for the well-being of our animals, but his care goes above and beyond health and nutrition. Blake takes time to learn the personalities of our cows and kangaroos and gives them the love, attention and respect they deserve. As you can see in this photo, the animals give it right back.

We love catching these moments and sharing them with you. After a two-year hiatus, save the date for Hansen Dairy's Down on the Farm Breakfast the morning of Sept. 17!

The event includes a hearty breakfast at our Tour Center and a trolley ride to the farm where visitors can pet cows and calves, see our kangaroos and play fun games.

We've welcomed many visitors already this summer and had a great time showing them how milk gets from our farm to your table. We're ready to welcome you, too!

Our Hands-On Tour guests get to feed calves, pet our kangaroos, milk a cow, make butter, sample our products and eat ice cream.

We offer several types of tours, and reservations are required. Most of our 3:30 Hands-On Tours are full until school starts; however, we do offer tours through Oct. 31 so there are still plenty of opportunities to visit!

Our August Cow of the Month is Jigsaw, who lives up to her name — her udder is a puzzle to our milking crew.

A cow's udder is divided into four even quarters that typically release milk at the same rate during milking.

Jigsaw dares to be different. The four quarters of her udder aren't really quarters at all. They're each different sizes and release milk at varying rates, making her "tricky to milk," says herd manager Blake.

Despite her unique udder, Jigsaw, at 5 1/2 years old, is nearing 100,000 pounds of milk production. Way to go, Jigsaw!
