With summer approaching, it is important to encourage safe and informed decision-making when it comes to alcohol and substance use.

During this season, people frequently gather to enjoy summer activities where alcohol may be present, which can sometimes increase the risk of binge drinking and other harmful behaviors. Making healthy choices regarding substance use can help reduce risks, and support overall well-being.

This toolkit provides educational pamphlets, library books, and activity books to support youth, young adults, and families in making healthy choices while promoting safe communities throughout the summer season.

To learn more about safe summer choices, including heat and water safety, visit American Red Cross, and about the impacts of excessive alcohol use during the summer and strategies to help prevent related harm, visit National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Resources to Learn More About the Dangers of Binge Drinking

During the summer months, increased social gatherings and celebrations can create situations where binge drinking is more likely

to occur.

Binge drinking is the act of consuming large amounts of alcohol over a short period of time. The increased heat and summer activities can have dangerous consequences when mixed with

binge drinking.

It can lead to dehydration, heat stroke, impaired judgment while swimming or boating, accidents and injuries, and an increased risk

of impaired driving.
