| | | | Farm Labor Contractors in CA Agriculture: Employment Trends, Wage Claims and Licensing Gaps | |
Our recent report examines the prevalence of FLCs as employers in agriculture counties and the over-representation of FLCs as violators of wage and hour laws
- Nearly 150,000 farmworkers are employed directly by farm labor contractors (FLCs) in California and account for more than one-third of the state’s workforce in the agricultural sector.

Farmworkers employed by FLCs are more likely to be victims of wage and hour violations than farmworkers employed directly by growers.

Labor Center Advisory Meeting
September 29, 2026 (11:30am - 1pm)
At our last Advisory meeting in June, one of the initiatives many of our partners were especially excited about was convening a Sacramento Wage Theft Coalition. We've decided to focus exclusively on this for our next Advisory meeting scheduled for Sept. 29, 2026. We'll prepare for the meeting by collecting information about similar intiatives around the state and country and we look forward to your input as to next steps.

Film Screening
October 8, 2026
Rodrigo Guevara, Class of 2009, director of Maquilando Resistencia, has generously agreed to a film screening and Q&A this fall at the UCD School of Law, King Hall. He will be joined with Margarita Ávalos, the primary subject of the film.
About the film: Manufacturing Resilience follows Margarita “Mago” Ávalos, an Indigenous woman from rural Puebla, who turns a lifetime of exploitation into a fight for collective justice. Through her voice, archival footage, and photos, the film traces her path from maquiladora worker to labor-rights leader.
