Summer Sun and July Fun!
JULY 2024
| |
June's Top Statistics
Looking back over June, it's clear it has been a busy month! According to 211.org, we had over 65 calls, with 60% of them focused on housing issues. The next highest need was utility help. United Way's office has also received several calls, all from people looking for help with rent, electric bills, transportation issues, and more! In these situations, many of our callers are people who have had medical issues that have put them out of work. Others have struggled with car problems, which affected their bills and their employment. In all of the situations, these community members have reached out for help and United Way of Lincoln County and 211 have offered all kinds of resources for them!

July's Community Partner Highlight: Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse Center
Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse Center is our partner agency highlight for July, and we're so excited to share information about this amazing organization! Beginning thirty years ago, the organization is dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect. Daily, they provide intervention and treatment whenever children become victims. With a mission oriented around becoming the primary source of relief for this kind of abuse, it has established itself as a premier organization for child safety and advocacy! During 2023 alone, 607 families received services with over 2,500 individual therapy sessions provided and over 4,000 volunteer hours contributed. This year, they have begun offering Triple P Parenting classes in addition to all their other services. Beyond this, another exciting event is occurring this month as they celebrate their 30th anniversary on July 18 at the James Warren Citizen Center from 11 AM - 4 PM! Make sure you come out to help support this wonderful organization and all they do for our community!

June's Board Member Highlight:
Jordan Frye
This month's board member highlight is Jordan Frye, who has been actively serving on the United Way of Lincoln County board since 2019! She has been on several of our committees and is a past board chair. Her empathy, responsibility, and consistency make her an amazing part of our organization as well as in her career and personal life. Outside of her volunteer work, she is a senior associate, focusing on community engagement and social responsibility, with Atrium Health. She began her career at Lincoln Medical Center, where she worked in volunteer services, marketing, and community relations. It was during this time that she found her passion for helping others. In her current position, she lives this passion by serving Gaston, Lincoln, Cleveland, and Rutherford counties. As a graduate of Western Carolina University, Leadership Lincoln County, and Leadership Cleveland County, she puts her skills and expertise to use on several boards beyond ours, from the Chamber of Commerce to Lincoln County Schools School Health Advisory Council and many more. Her extraordinary abilities make it no wonder she was awarded the Christina Arlow Faith Service Commitment Award for United Way of Lincoln County along with the Elliot Beal Award for her professional leadership within United Way. Outside of her professional life, Jordan loves spending time with her family, including her husband and two children. Watching her children's sports games, being outdoors, and walking her miniature schnauzer are some of her favorite activities. We are so glad to have her on our board! Thank you Jordan!
