“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, determines your destiny.” Aristotle

Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2024,

As we close this unprecedented school year, we celebrate how the Fenwick Family has faced the many challenges with true excellence. Our students gave their best efforts when switching to remote learning, earning a new appreciation of their communal classroom experiences and the enduring relationships they forge with classmates and teachers alike. Our parents witnessed at home the passion that our teachers have for both the content they teach and the overall wellbeing of their students. This same excellence is the sole focus of our efforts, our execution and our choices to forge a better destiny for you, our youngest members of the Fenwick Family.

We are now planning a safe, exciting, and engaging 2020-2021 school year and we cannot wait to share our plans with you. In the meantime, know that excellence is our only parameter for our students’ social, academic, athletic and extra-curricular experiences.

Today we are sharing with you our initial summer plans for our rising freshmen: Peer Mentor Program, All Aboard, placement tests, summer assignments, and expectations regarding the technology needed.

1-      Our Peer Mentor Program and the All Aboard August exciting week. See a detailed description in your webpage: https://www.fenwick.org/student/2024

2-      Our Summer English Reading Assignments are listed in our student page ( https://www.fenwick.org/student ) and include insightful tips on how to annotate and be an active reader.

3-      Our school-wide summer initiative: This same excellence is what inspired us to slightly modify our initial summer schoolwide initiative on how to analyze the moral content of our actions. Based on the recent social events, we have decided to address the same topic while focusing on the reality of systematic racism and the pursuit of authentic justice. As Pope Francis eloquently describes, “We cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life.” At Fenwick, our mission calls us—quite intentionally—to appreciate and celebrate our diversity and to recognize and promote our unity. Since this is a pivotal tenet of our Catholic Social Doctrine, our summer school-wide assignment will still be anchored in how we analyze the moral content of our actions. With that purpose, our teachers have identified a variety of readings and films for students to explore how they make ethical decisions that positively impact our common good. This represents the sincere effort, the intelligent execution and the wise choices of our faculty to empower our students to grow in the wisdom and virtue so much needed in our society. We will share our schoolwide initiative in late July.

Thank you for entrusting these freshman students to us. Seeing each of them thrive and develop their unique gifts and talents is how we help build a better destiny for our human family. This is how we promise to execute our excellence every day.

Until we meet on campus again.

Fondly,

Cecilia
