SUMMER UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2016
FBFI Chaplains and Office Manager, Malinda Duvall, June 2016

PROGRESS REPORT SINCE MAY

JOE VAUGHN GETS HIS MDIV

We mentioned in our last update that my son Joe, the youth pastor at our home church, Faith Baptist, would be receiving his MDiv on May 6. We are very proud of his accomplishment.

FRIENDS FROM SINGAPORE

As well, we are thankful for several opportunities to see friends from around the world who were visiting in Greenville. Ping, Melanie, Paton, and Judson Nyen from Singapore had dinner with us at our home.

DR. MORAN'S RETIREMENT

We enjoyed seeing Evangelist Jerry Sivnksty at Dr. Bennie Moran's retirement service at Faith Baptist in Morgantown, West Virginia

Vaughn Family

While traveling through Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois in June, we visited with my brother Harold and some of his family members in Florence, Kentucky and then spoke in the Sunday services at Grace Bible Church (Pastor David Snow) in Casey, Illinois. This year's FBFI Annual Fellowship was hosted by Colonial Hills Baptist in Indianapolis, with FBFI Vice Chairman and CHBC Pastor Chuck Phelps. The featured speaker was Dr. John Whitcomb, a delightful man, the author of the groundbreaking book, The Genesis Flood. The week of June 12-17 was filled with meetings and ministry, topped off with an excursion to the Creation Museum and a personal meeting with Dr. Ken Ham. It was a special treat to travel home with Roger and Malinda Duvall and Pastor Phil Golden and his wife Chantal. All of us serve together now at our home church in Greenville.

In July I traveled with my grandsons David and Silas to Ketchikan, Alaska for Sunday services with Pastor John Judson, and then I went on to the 25 th  Annual Alaskan Regional FBFI at Maranatha Baptist in Anchorage while the boys returned home to get ready for school. My sister Nancy came to our home to stay with Becky while I was away. Although we did see Silas and his family and my daughter Debbie's family in Marietta, Georgia we were not able to get all the grandchildren here for a summer visit together this year.

We have made good progress on Becky's big writing project, but there is much yet to do, and it will take a long time to get it finished. On August 18 I traveled to Fort Jackson for a Chaplains' graduation, then on to the coast for our annual church fishing trip, and finished off the weekend at Calvary Bible Church in Myrtle Beach with Pastor and Mrs. Burt Bosworth. Calvary was our very first home church in the early 1970's when I was stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.

HEALTH UPDATE
As we also mentioned in our last update, we did learn on May 18 that I would have gallbladder surgery. After the trip to West Virginia to speak for Dr. Moran's retirement, the surgery was performed on May 26. Recovery went well and we were able to travel in mid-June for the meetings mentioned above. However, the gallbladder surgery delayed additional follow up exams for an unrelated health issue that had begun early this year. Those tests were finally scheduled for August 24, with surgery following quickly on August 29. That was a repeat surgery (fourth time now) that I had about a month before Brenda passed away. Now, as then, I am on very light duty for about a month, but making good progress with Becky on writing, while managing my responsibilities for FrontLine magazine and other ministry duties that can be done at the desk and on the phone.

UPCOMING MINISTRY
Greg and Christine Rogers,
Israel 2016

On October 2 I will be with Pastor Greg Rogers (whose family traveled with us to Israel in January this year) at Grace Memorial Baptist in Bedford, Virginia, where the National D-Day Memorial is located. There we will celebrate the 64th Annual Homecoming of Grace Memorial Baptist. On October 9-12 we will participate in the Annual Missions Conference at our home church, and on October 15, I will have the privilege of attending my 50th High School Reunion in Florence, Kentucky, followed by my 40th graduation reunion at Bob Jones University on October 22. Then Becky and I will close out the month at the Wilds where I will speak for their Senior Adult Conference.

We are thrilled to report that all funds were received for the printing of 10,000 of Joe's tract in Spanish. He and the teens took many copies with them on the church missions trip to Argentina this summer. As of August 13, 2016 all of our sermon recordings (2,785!) have been posted at sermonaudio.com. We are deeply indebted to Steven Lee and his team for all their work! Long time members of Faith, the Bunce family, said goodbye as they moved to Washington to help with a Faith Baptist church plant. Both Esther and Jared Bunce are graduates of Hidden Treasure Christian School (HTCS). Becky has returned to serve as a volunteer teacher's aide at HTCS this fall. Thank you for your prayers for us, and pray especially that Becky will be able to finish her book.

Love and prayers,

John Vaughn and Becky
