Hello!

Hope your family is enjoying a nice summer, filled with good times with friends and family, fun adventures, and new learning experiences. We have some new programs coming up at the clinic for both students and parents, please scroll on for more information about our classes.

We are excited to have personal counselor, Danny Arias, rejoining our staff in July. He is experienced with helping students and athletes maximize their potential. If you know a student who is struggling to find his way, or an athlete whose mental approach interferes with her performance, Danny can help.

If you have some concerns about your student and have been considering having psychoeducational testing done to try to pinpoint the issue, summer is an excellent time to get on our psychologists' schedules. Students usually have a little more flexibility in their summer calendars too, so reach out if you'd like more information or to book an appointment for testing or an evaluation.

Lastly, we are looking for another great full-time receptionist to join our admin team. If you know someone who might be a good fit, please have them contact us as soon as possible via our ad on indeed.com.

ClearStrand ASD

Dr. Korb and Dr. Lee have partnered with a new company, ClearStrand ASD, to provide "testing" for autism. This test reports with high negative predictive value (95%) if a child (ages 1 month to 10 years) does NOT have autism. In other words, a child that tests positive very likely does not have autism, but a child who tests negative may or may not have it. The test is non-invasive and all it requires is several inch-long hairs (cut, not pulled) from the back of a child’s head. This is not a genetic test, it looks at responses to certain elements that can be measured in the hair and are different in autistic and non-autistic people. This is referred to as a biomarker.

Dr. Korb and Dr. Lee are still investigating the value of a test that largely rules out autism. We think this could be useful for a family that has a child with autism and worries that their younger sibling might also be affected. It could also be used in a general pediatrician’s office to determine who to refer for further evaluation. The company has generously provided Center for Developing Minds with several test kits for free. Dr. Korb and Dr. Lee are offering this to interested families at no cost. If you would like your child to use this test please contact Linny Ruffolo at 408-358-1853 to schedule a brief hair cutting and registration. This offer is limited to the first clients to respond, but it may be available to additional future clients for a fee determined by the company.

Practice Executive Function Skills!

Pardon our dust!

We had an eventful morning at the clinic last month when a random driver accidentally plowed into the front of the clinic. Thankfully, none of our staff or clients were injured in the crash or by the debris, and the driver was okay. The building, however, did sustain some damage. While the front area is currently closed to pedestrians, the clinic is fully open for business during the repair! Please enter the clinic via the doors from the underneath parking area.

Big thanks to the Town of Los Gatos and the emergency responders who were on the scene immediately, working to help quickly handle the situation. We are also very grateful to Fox Creek Fund and staff, our building owners, who jumped in and immediately began handling the damage assessment and needed repairs. We are so appreciative of their responsiveness.
