Summer Update 2022

A Regional Growth

New Office in California

In June, we were honored to receive a generous grant to establish our fifth dedicated regional office in Southern California. "This commitment of resources will allow us to go beyond our national outreach and virtual programs to have on-the-ground staff connecting with schools and communities throughout the state of California," shares Trish Larsen, executive director. "We have known the need is there, is great, and growing by the day. We are grateful that we can take our outreach and services to the next level." Connect with our California Office

Expanding in the Midwest

Since 2018, we have received funding from the Duck Cup Memorial Fund that has brought us to speak at schools in Minnesota and Iowa. In our first partnership year, we completed 13 presentations and last year that number grew to 65, with even more expected in 2022-2023.

This month, Minding Your Mind was awarded a generous grant from the Florence and Laurence Spungen Family Foundation to support Chicago-area school programming. "We are excited at the prospect of becoming an established mental health education resource for schools and organizations in Chicagoland," says Marissa Marschall, director of national outreach and programming. "The confidence placed in us by both of these distinguished foundations has us excited at what the future holds for Minding Your Mind in the Midwest."

Staff Announcements

Morgan Hannaleck Named California Regional Director

Morgan Hannaleck started with Minding Your Mind as a young adult speaker in the New England region. She quickly became one of our most requested speakers and traveled the country sharing her story. Upon successful completion of her master's degree, Morgan took on a dual role of clinician and young adult speaker. When we were awarded a grant to bring our programs to California, she was the ideal person to become California Regional Director. Morgan is tasked with outreach to schools and communities to introduce Minding Your Mind and implement our programs. To discuss opportunities in California, contact Morgan.

Suzelle Marques Promoted to New Jersey & New York Regional Director

Suzelle Marques has been serving as Outreach Coordinator for New Jersey & New York since January 2019. She was instrumental in expanding the reach of Minding Your Mind in NYC as well as in far Upstate New York. A multi-lingual clinician, Suzelle took on the task of translating Kind Minds and Just Talk About It into Spanish, extending this crucial education to diverse communities. As of July 1, Suzelle took over the leadership role of New Jersey & New York Regional Director when Guy Iacono became the fulltime Florida Regional Director. To explore opportunities in New Jersey and New York, contact Suzelle.

Minding Your Mind is Hiring!

Do you know a college student or young professional who is interested in meaningful advocacy in the mental health field? As the requests for our services grow, we continue to hire new speakers. Mallory and Courtney are two of the most recent young adults to join the MYM family, and we have several others who are finishing up the training program and will be in schools this fall.

We are currently recruiting speakers nationwide with a particular concentration in California, Florida, and Chicago. If you are a young adult who has come through a mental health crisis, are in a productive recovery process, and are interested in sharing your story to inspire others, please consider becoming one of our young adult speakers.

Minding Your Mind's primary objective is to provide mental health education to adolescents, teens, and young adults, and the adults in their lives. Our goal is to end the stigma and destructive behaviors often associated with mental health issues. Minding Your Mind's programs move away from crisis-based response to prevention through education.
