While we always have a lot going on at BCP, this summer has been especially busy! We are moving into BCP's new expanded space, preparing for an external evaluation of BCP's model, and launching our Sustainers' Circle for multi-year support. And, of course our focus remains on patients: continuing to offer the highest quality pediatric care, integrated mental health care, and integrated care navigation and wellness services which address the social determinants of health with all patients. We are so proud of all of the wellness programming which has helped many families get ready for camp and is providing BCP's own in-house summer programs with the support of BCP's fabulous summer interns. But, BCP's team hasn't forgotten to have some fun alongside our very important work providing equity to pediatric healthcare. We continue to be so grateful for the entire BCP community of partners, supporters, and patients who make all of this innovative work possible!

BCP Patient Spotlights!

Meet Ashlyn!

Ashlyn is a scholar student at Diamond Middle school and was nominated to represent her school for the upcoming year as a leader and a scholar student. She also attended the statehouse with her Superintendent to advocate and support an increase in funding for METCO students!

Meet Emily!

Emily is one of BCP's "tween" patients who came to BCP after her mother who is a Boston Public School teacher heard many positive reviews about the practice. Emily has enjoyed taking part in BCP's cooking classes, yoga classes and even participated in one of our first pre-teen groups! Emily is also a budding artist who has already started a business at the young age of 12! She has sold several pieces of art already! We are so thrilled to have Emily as part of the BCP family and can't wait to watch her career as an artist blossom!

We're Expanding Onto a Second Floor!

We are pleased to share that we are nearing completion of BCP’s expansion onto a second floor which will double our footprint at our flagship office on Albany Street. This represents a significant milestone and a giant leap forward in BCP’s mission to provide equitable, comprehensive, and quality care to our patients. The excitement is building as we see our vision for more integrated mental health and care navigation and wellness services become a reality. This expansion signifies BCP’s commitment to meeting the needs of patients and ensuring that they have access to the care they deserve regardless of their background, income or insurance status. Construction will be completed this fall and we look forward to utilizing this new space to its fullest potential.

We're Sending Kids to Camp!

Summer camp is not just about fun and games; it's a place where kids can develop new skills, become more independent, make friendships, and build resilience, all critical components of health. We believe in the positive impact of these experiences, which is why every summer, BCP helps families send their kids to a number of different summer camp programs. BCP's care navigation and wellness team work tirelessly to find the best camp options and support families through this process. The enthusiasm and response from the BCP community has been overwhelmingly positive. We can't wait to hear all the wonderful stories and see the campers' smiling faces at the end of the summer.

In March, BCP hosted Camp Night to connect patients and their families with summer opportunities! We are so grateful to Camp Harbor View, Camp Wonderland, Phillips Brooks House Association, St. Stephens Youth Programs, USES, and YES for coming to BCP and sharing these experiences with patients and their families.

We're Hosting Summer Programs!

BCP's daily summer programming is in full swing! BCP offers a variety of sports, games, and activities that keep patients active, entertained, and engaged throughout the summer. From team sports, creative arts and crafts, and everything in between, there's something for every child to enjoy and explore. BCP’s summer programs are designed to foster teamwork, boost confidence, enhance motor skills, and promote a healthy lifestyle. These programs are drop-in style, so they are flexible for families depending on their summer plans and needs! This summer we are hosting the following programs:

Monday: South End Soccer

Tuesday: Ethos Gym

Wednesday: BCP Nutritious

Thursday: Knucklebones

Friday: Fun Friday

We Heard from our Patients!

As BCP continues to grow, the commitment to improve our services and provide the highest quality of care remains unwavering. That's why a comprehensive patient satisfaction survey was recently conducted with support from the Listen4Good program and The Boston Foundation, and BCP received a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 95!

The positive feedback received from BCP’s patients has been both inspiring and insightful, and we are grateful for everyone who participated. Thanks to the thoughtful responses (some of which are below) received from the surveys, we are in the process of incorporating this feedback. BCP will continue to gather regular feedback as part of our ongoing efforts to listen to patients and further enhance the care that patients receive. One example of this is dental care. BCP is currently in discussions with BU School of Dental Medicine to try to bring preventative dental care to BCP.

We're in the Boston Globe!

Dr. Riseberg was interviewed by reporter, Katie Johnston, for an impactful article in The Boston Globe. As the debt ceiling deal continues to impact many safety net programs, BCP remains committed to supporting families with the social determinants of health (SDOH) while removing barriers to the most basic human rights, including the highest quality health care. We Welcomed a New Board member!

We are so honored that Dr. Shahrzad Slater has joined BCP's Board of Directors!

Dr. Slater practiced medicine at Emory and Brown before returning to clinical research, and ultimately, family and community building. A recognized leader in the community, Dr. Slater served as the Senior Vice President for Clinical Operations at LMK Clinical Research Consulting, where she led the clinical operations teams and served as general medical advisor for the Leadership Team.

The wife of New England Patriot special teams stalwart Matthew Slater, mother of four beautiful young children, philanthropist, and advocate for minority communities, Dr. Slater is passionate about family, community health, education, and most importantly, her Christian faith.

We're Getting Funded!

Boston Community Pediatrics is proud to be selected as a grant recipient of Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S. Corporate Social Responsibility Program and of the Audax Charitable Foundation! Thank you to Takeda and Audax for your partnership and investment in health equity. We are honored to have such amazing corporate partners in this work!

We Love our Partners!

At BCP, we strive to provide the highest quality comprehensive care and support the many needs of patients through important partnerships and generous donors. BCP’s newest partner, Cocotree Kids, provides new underwear packs for BCP to distribute to children of all ages. Another initiative aimed at supporting the well-being of BCP’s patients is our partnership with TBE Table. We understand that access to healthy and nutritious meals is essential for health and overall wellness, that's why we are grateful for the collaboration with TBE Table which cooks, packages and delivers delicious, complete, and nourishing meals for BCP patients to take home.

We Went to Fenway with Pride!

In June, we had our annual staff summer outing at Fenway Park, and it was an absolute home run! The BCP team came together to enjoy an unforgettable experience at Fenway Park thanks to the generosity of the Red Sox Foundation. BCP was even welcomed on the jumbotron thanks to Dr. Riseberg's mother, the Fenway Hat Lady! This outing provides the perfect opportunity to relax, unwind, and strengthen the team that makes BCP so special. Staff always choose a Red Sox shirt (thanks to 19 JerseyStreet) that is then customized (thanks to All Sports Wear) with the BCP logo. This year staff sported this awesome pride shirt in honor of pride month. This night at Fenway remains a favorite BCP tradition!

We Can't Wait to Run the Falmouth Road Race!

In just a few weeks BCP will be participating in the Falmouth Road Race for the first time, and we are so excited for the 18 incredible participants on Team BCP who will be lacing up their running shoes to bring equity to pediatric healthcare! This race is about more than crossing the finish line; it's about showcasing BCP's innovative and disruptive new model of healthcare. By participating in this event, we are raising awareness and important funds to support BCP’s mission and model and most importantly, the over 1,300 patients of BCP.

We Celebrated with NCF!

BCP was thrilled to be at The New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund's (NCF) third birthday celebration in June to celebrate all of their incredible work! We were inspired by NCF’s President, Makeeba McCreary, Governor Healey, Attorney General Andrea Campbell, Sheena and Desmond Meade, and the many Founders of NCF. BCP is proud to be a past recipient of funding from NCF and we look forward to continuing to partner with so many incredible grassroots organizations, who are working to empower Black and Brown individuals and communities while dismantling systemic racism.
