The 2018-2019 school year was a busy one for The San Marcos Promise! As we reflect on the year, we are excited about the growth of our existing programs and thankful for the start of so much more.
We are both honored and thrilled to have partnered with Pima Medical Institute to hire two full-time Education Coordinators,
Amanda Yantzer and Brandon Montiel,
who have already made a huge impact at our three high schools in the district. In fact, they are this summer hosting our Future You Initiative (FYI) Skillshops that you can read about below. None of this would have been possible without the support of Pima Medical Institute. A huge thank you to Fred Freedman, John Hanson, Dewayne Johnson, Jen Spurlin, Aimee Michaelis, & the entire Pima team!
We hosted our 1st Annual Future Fair in April, went "Back to the Future" and danced the night away at our 1st Annual Promise Prom, began our Promise Navigators Program at Mission Hills High School, started our TSMProfessional Career Closet to help students dress for success, and partnered with new CTE Programs in the district to provide opportunities for students to attend events such as North County Manufacturing Day, APEX Expo, Project Follow the Rock, etc. We partnered with CSUSM's Senior Experience Team which resulted in paid culinary internships for 10 students at the Westin Carlsbad this summer. The San Marcos Promise Board of Directors also welcomed three new members who are passionate about helping us carry out our mission in the community!
These are just a few highlights of "firsts" for TSMP this year, but there was much more. We have lots of exciting things planned for the upcoming year...stay tuned!
Have a fantastic summer!

One Business One Promise sponsors!

Since its inception, TSMP has strived to open doors for students by helping them discover their strengths and interests and then helping them find viable post-high school pathways to pursue those interests. We aim to guide and support all SMUSD students on their journey to college and into the workforce.
We are able to do this wonderful work thanks to generous donations and sponsorships from our local businesses and community. We'd like to thank and welcome our newest One Business, One Promise sponsors, Fairfield Inn & Suites, San Marcos and EDCO.
A huge thank you to all of our current donors for believing in our mission and supporting the futures of over 20,000 students.

The San Marcos Promise and San Marcos Unified were proud to participate in this year's Senior Grad Walks! Graduating seniors from Mission Hills and San Marcos High Schools took a humble stroll through Joli Ann Leichtag, Knob Hill, San Elijo, and Richland Elementary Schools, inspiring the youth to dream big about their futures.
Seniors delivered inspirational messages and words of wisdom to the elementary students and reflected on their journey for the past 13 years and how these schools and educators played a vital role in where they are today.
Congratulations to the class of 2019! Thank you to all who participated and helped make the 2nd Annual Grad Walks a huge success!

Th
ank you to Mr. Jesus Hernandez from Twin Oaks High School for chaperoning a group of our middle and high school girls at Camp NAWIC in San Diego from June 17-22.
Camp NAWIC provides a unique week-long, hands-on approach to a construction career to girls at no cost to the participants. Campers learn the basic elements of various construction trades and develop a “can-do” attitude they can apply in many aspects of their lives. Seasoned mentors and role models are on hand to support them every step of the way. Campers also learn the concepts of team building and team approach in completing their tasks.
Most importantly, campers develop greater self-confidence and better self-esteem as they tackle and successfully complete challenging projects.
Under the guidance of seasoned tradespeople, our girls were able to explore and develop basic skills in various construction disciplines including electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, surveying, and heavy equipment operation.
This is another exciting example of how The San Marcos Promise is partnering with the schools and our community to help students explore their interests and learn about the unlimited options they have for their futures!
